In my other job, Iāve worked with hundreds of couples and dozens of families and observed how people move through friction, misunderstandings, and pain points in their relationships not only with their spouses, but with their kids as well.
Iām almost 100% convinced that more than any social category and background overlaps, core values, lifestyle, communication skills, or income level the most important area of compatibility and source of day to day, week to week, and year to year happiness is through shared humor. Sarcasm, shared jokes, watching videos (my spouse and I bonded over many Key & Peele shorts), making fun of each otherā¦any form of it.
Couples who can laugh together multiple times per day, no matter what is going on, seem to be able to get through so many challenges faster and with more patience and care. Even in the midst of bad fights, if people an interject a well timed pun or sprinkle in some levity, it can dramatically shift how an interaction unfolds.
