Having more time at home has allowed me to explore my own creativity in the post processing of some of my images. This one of Multnomah Falls was taken in 2016. I started by combining 3 raw files at different exposures to retain the dynamic range needed to assure the shadows and highlights were within the histogram.I then removed the people from the bridge using clone tool. I thought they were too distracting in this image. Then I lightened some of the highlighted areas and darkened some of the shadow areas where I want the viewers eye to focus on.
Anyone who is interested in purchasing one of my photos can message me or email me. I can print photos up to 8.5 x 11". for larger sizes you can order them from my website at hankkreuzer.smugmug.com

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. As we mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we can count some of the environmental milestones we've accomplished. We can't reverse some of the damage we've done but hopefully we can find the technology and the means to feed a growing population and provide the energy for our growing needs. Can we find a way to reverse climate change and prevent most extinctions? I hope so. I think it will take a shift in our current course, however.

I didn't get the chance to visit some if my favorite fall locations this year in the Northeast however I was revisiting some photos I took last October and came across this photo I took on the way up to the top of Blue Hill in Blue Hill Maine. There was some sun and showers that morning and that provided a nice soft light to the scene.

Spring is progressing here in So Cal and the rains have subsided many weeks ago. The grassy hillsides no longer hold their lush green color, however, wildflowers are still blooming and it's still beautiful. I decided to capture some of the wild Mustard grass that covered the hills in gold this year.
I had a technique in mind that I've tried in the past so I went to a couple of local parks to see if I could create some unique images. I decided to use the camera like a painters brush to create images that have a painterly and abstract feel. To get this affect I used a neutral density filter and a small aperture to cut back the amount of light so I could slow the shutter speed. By sweeping the camera side to side, or in circular motions, depending on the desired affect,I could blur the scene to blend colors textures. A bit of practice and experimenting was required, but I really enjoy this technique and I can get great pictures without traveling far from home.
