Some weddings are beautiful. Some weddings are an experience.
Emma and RJ’s wedding was both.
I’ve known Emma since she was in high school working at Kwik trip, so getting to photograph such an important day for her was already pretty special. But getting to watch these two celebrate the life they’ve built together made this one even more meaningful.
And when I say they built their wedding venue, I mean they literally built it. By hand. These two are some of the hardest-working, most dedicated people, and every little detail of their day felt like a reflection of that. You could see the time, effort, love, and countless hours they poured into creating a place that was completely their own.
Then came the wedding day chaos.
Goats escaping.
Max the donkey stealing the show and collecting more love and attention than just about anyone.
A huge turnout of people who clearly came to celebrate these two with their whole hearts.
Laughter, happy tears, hugs, dancing, boots, cowboy hats, and all of the little moments in between.
And honestly, that is exactly why I love documenting weddings.
Your wedding day doesn’t have to be perfectly controlled. It doesn’t need to look like someone else’s wedding. The things that go a little sideways often become the stories you tell for years.
I want my couples to be able to look back at their photographs and remember more than what everything looked like. I want them to remember how it felt.
The people who showed up.
The laughter that filled the room.
The happy tears.
The ridiculous moments.
The animals that became part of the day.
The way their person looked at them when they weren’t paying attention.
The feeling of having everyone they love in one place.
Because someday, the flowers will be gone, the decorations will be packed away, and the last song will have played. But you’ll still have these photographs—and hopefully, when you look at them years from now, you can feel that day all over again.
Emma and RJ, thank you for trusting me to document such a huge chapter of your story. Your day was beautiful, chaotic, completely personal, and so incredibly you.
Congratulations to two genuinely amazing people. I’m so happy I got to be there. 🤍
