Another amazing strand feeding I got to witness when I visited South Carolina in July.

Strand feeding is a unique feeding behavior where dolphins corral fish near sandy shores then create a large wave to push the fish and themselves onto shore to eat the fish before returning to the water. Strand feeding is not common in most parts of the world. It’s a learned behavior from mom. Copied from https://www.lowcountrymarinemammalnetwork.org/what-we-do

Such an amazing sight. I could only tell it was not a common bird I see but had to crop in quite a bit to see a little more detail.

Regarding my latest strand feeding posts in South Carolina I was asked how far away you should be. The answer is: 45 feet from the waterline.

But sometimes the dolphins might surprise you by strand feeding closer than that.

Again, these dolphins are not stranded or in danger. They are simply feeding this way.

I apologize if the pictures are not in order. Facebook and IG have a mind of their own when it come to that.

Please take the time and click or swipe to see who wins the fight pelicans vs. dolphins vs. gull ...

This is another strand feeding I got to witness when I was in South Carolina which lasts about 10 seconds before the dolphins wiggle themselves back into the water.

Have a wonderful Sunday.
