Rehearsals Continue…

So much fun rehearsing with my dear friends and fellow actors for the upcoming children’s play at the Alcazar Theatre called, “Chaos in the Fairy Tale Forrest”!

We’ve had several nights of dress rehearsal without costumes, but we’re slowly bringing costumes out for all these amazing fairytale characters. Love working on my 7th play now with Asa Olsson and her team!

I’m getting to play side-by-side with one of my favorite people in the world., Howard Rudnick, who is the Tin Man who guides me through the forest as the Headless Horseman!

You can still get your tickets in advance at this link below:

I would say I hope to see you there, but I don’t have a head, mouth or ears…. So see me after the show, and tell me that you were there!

Hidden Treasures from 66 years ago…

Years ago, while cleaning out my parent’s attic, I found a hidden treasure my mother left for me inside my favorite childhood Golden Book called, “Chicken Little”.

The book was from 1958.

Inside the pages of this favorite nighttime story was a cute little story from mom.

What a treasure to know years later that the sky is not falling and that my Mom is always looking over me every day!

People ask me where I got the inspiration to name my Storytelling, Children’s Book publishing company that I call, 28:20 Enterprises, Inc.

That was Mom’s favorite Bible passage from Matthew 28:20 (“I AM with you Always!”

Delightful Day Back in the Fourth Grade at the Carpinteria Family School at Canalino Elementary School with my longtime teacher friend, Jan Silk.

We talked about the power of stories, storytelling, poetry and how and why I created my own Creative Bucket-list of artistic adventures I wanted to explore and perhaps master in my lifetime.

The kids were amazing poets and artists as they created their own haiku poems and illustrated them during our 90 minute session together.

Can’t wait to see all of their final creations and hopefully get to hear one of their names read out as the “Young Poet of the Year” in the upcoming annual poetry contest hosted by The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center!

Yay Kids!!!

The Gift That Keeps On Giving!

So excited to receive two of the final gifts that I created for our third wedding anniversary yesterday for Jodi!

The great people at Songfinch sent us a metal plaque with our wedding photo and a QR code that sends us to a link to the song I wrote for her!

Thanks again to Songfinch for your great format and talent connections.

I love the tune that Country Musician, Chris Rogers, composed and sang to go with my lyrics!

For all of you and Jodi, “I Thank My Stars Above!”

You can listen to our song at the link here and see the photos/slideshow that inspired my song…

YA’LL… My Southern Gentleman Roots are Showing Today!

I learned the hard way today that you can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy!

I was so excited to enter my third art show today here in my new hometown of Ojai!

I thought, long and hard about what piece of art I would submit for the upcoming show called, “Art of the Human Form”.

After sharing a few ideas with some of you on Facebook, I settled on this one image of one of my best friends granddaughters. The image of her dancing joyfully on the shore of the ocean upon seeing it for the very first time (as she lived in Phoenix) and had never seen the ocean before.

I was surprised when I got a call today from the art center telling me that my art was not accepted because it didn’t meet the stipulated requirements detailed on the artist invitation.

I went back and carefully read the flyer invitation that said…

”This juried show will express the beauty, intrigue, and dynamic of the human form. All entries must be original, framed, and wired for hanging. No Giclees or Al.”

I carefully went through all my photos of human figures which is not something I usually shoot (I’m more of a nature person), but found this one of my best friends granddaughter dancing in the waves of the Pacific Ocean.

I realized when I walked through the now hung show that I was 1000% off of the mark of my interpretation of what the show is going to be.

I had to laugh out loud…

The showroom was filled with beautiful pencil drawings, artwork, and images of n**e bodies!

I don’t know if I’m just naïve or still learning what art really is in different parts of the world, boy oh boy, was I way off on this show!

I proudly brought “my little art girl home”, knowing that she’ll grow up one day.

Obviously, I still have an awful lot to learn about art, but I’m having a blast learning!

Bless my sweet little heart!

(P.S. - I did get a refund of my entry fee because of the lack of clarity for the description of the show on the flyer)…😉

Here is the link to the Love Song I wrote and had recorded for my beautiful bride, Jodi, this week for our third wedding anniversary.

I’ve always wanted to write and record a song.

I was fortunate to find Country Music rising star, Chris Rogers from Nashville to put the melody together and sing my lyrics to my love song, “I Thank My Stars Above”.

It’s the story of our fateful meeting on an eWomenNetwork Calabasas Zoom Business call during the first week of Covid Shutdown…and the rest is HIStory & HERstory! 😉

Thank you Dennis Mitchell and Carpinteria Valley Radio for debuting our love song on the air this morning!

I am blessed in so many ways!

127,000 PHOTOS IN 5 YEARS…

Hard to believe that I’ve now taken over 127,000 photos and 1,600 videos with my iPhone 11 Pro Max cell phone since I purchased it back in September of 2019!

Thanks for the many beautiful memories Apple and Steve Jobs!

Working on some new photography for the upcoming Art Exhibit at The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center show called, “Rincon Expressions” which is our famous Surf Point.

The show runs from January 11 - March 3, 2024 and each artist can submit up to 3 pieces of art for consideration.

Any favorites among these?

I’m thinking 12” x 12” color canvas prints…

One of my favorite parts of playing Santa is the unexpected gifts that the children bring you during your visit.

I had a wonderful time early this morning greeting nearly 80 young kids one-on-one who ware 7 and under at Carpinteria Children's Project.

Mary Layman from the Rotary Club of Carpinteria Morning did a phenomenal job of arranging, setting up and taking hundreds of photos of the kids and teachers.

My unexpected gifts were the drawings that the children created to hand to me when they came up.

It always warms my heart to see how proud they are of their work.

Next stop… playing my two roles tonight in MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET at the Alcazar Theatre from 7 pm - 9:30 pm….

Then…more sleep!
