The female tarantula hawk has one goal: to provide food for her offspring.
She hunts a tarantula, paralyzes it with a precise sting, drags it to a burrow, and lays a single egg on its body. When the larva hatches, it feeds on the still-living spider until it is ready to pupate—a gruesome but remarkably effective survival strategy.
