Can you smell the fresh blossoms? Today is World Bee Day...a day to remember the important role bees make in our ecosystem and the how we must do what we can to provide habitats they will thrive in. Crabapple trees are a vital resource for bees as they offer an abundant amount of nectar and nutrient filled pollen. I love the humming of the tree as the bees forage.

Pileated Woodpeckers are the largest extant woodpeckers in North America. They are 14"-20" in length. Their wingspan averages 2.5 feet. Males sport a red stripe mustache. Humor me because they remind me of a small pterodactyl. I smiled as I watched this one by the lake.
