A peaceful, stream-side photo for your Friday! Signing off the week with this peaceful, pastoral scene of the English countryside. I hope all my followers have a lovely, restful weekend! I wouldn't mind some of this rainy weather myself, as it's been quite dry here. Even my lavender has needed consistent watering, and it likes hot, dry conditions! September has cooled off a bit but the rain has held off.

This door in Lacock was such a fun find! It looks so overgrown yet still seems to be in semi-regular use. It reminded me of one of my favorite poems, the hobbit walking song:

โ€œStill round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.โ€

Changing it up a bit to find some late summer/early autumn inspiration - how pretty is this rose arbor above the door? I love the varied architecture you can find in Lacock. While the village dates to the 13th century, it's more recently famous for being the birthplace of photography and (fittingly) a famous filming location. Historically, its money was made in the wool trade, and it's fun to see how the village changed over the years through its buildings. We're lucky to have such a well-preserved village to wander and explore!

I love when a photo can immediately evoke a feeling, or sense of place, in me, and this sunrise shot fits the bill! The sun had just peeked over a cloud bank, so that blew out a little, but I actually didn't want to change it in edits, for some reason. Feel free to disagree! I think the birds, the beach-goers, the sunrise, and standing in the water made a nice composition, a little mise en scene feel. A quintessential "morning at the beach" - I can almost hear, feel, and smell it too! Do photos ever do that for you?

Soaking in some final sun rays and salt water vibes at the beach as August progresses. I have finally gotten used to the idea of summer and am trying to enjoy it while it lasts, despite experiencing the hottest and most humid summer on record at home. There's just something so calming about escaping to the seaside! Gorgeous cloud formations at sunrise are an added bonus as well, especially if you get to sleep off the early morning under the beach umbrella later on. I loved how the water was dark and moody, such a contrast to the show in the sky, despite a little reflection! Definitely hinted at the storms that sadly forced us inside shortly afterward.

Sometimes, when the rain and the wind drive you off the beach, you can discover little pops of color on the marsh edge. I've actually had really bad luck with weather on our trips so far this year, and it's forced me to shift my photography focus a bit. I've started seeing it as a good thing, though I was quite grumpy at the time. I wish I knew what these flowers were - they were so vibrant on a very rainy day. I had to be quite patient and wait for the wind to die down a bit as well, which allowed me to really soak in the marsh atmosphere, literally as well as figuratively. The birds and hermit crabs were not cowed by the weather one bit. When it started thundering again, I reluctantly went back inside. Of the two photos, which do you prefer? I couldn't decide, so y'all got both ๐Ÿ˜‰

Two very different photos of two fun creatures I like to spot when I'm at the beach! The first is a ghost crab. I admire their very impressive camouflage - it was so hard to see this little fella. They're also very fast, so I appreciated this one staying still long enough to pose for a portrait! It's fun to watch them build their little nests throughout the day on the beach, but they're especially active at sunrise and sunset. The second, I believe (I am willing to be corrected!) is a female yellow-bellied slider. She was looking for a spot to lay her eggs, and had her nose up at us to see if we were a threat! Luckily, this was using a zoom lens - we had given her lots of space. I think we saw 3 tortoises laying eggs on this trip. I love visiting the beach in the off season, when the animals are even more active! This set is rather monochromatic, but I can't really complain - these two creatures are masters of blending into their habitat! If you're visiting Kiawah, like I was, you can always visit the nature center to go on tours and learn more about these and other animals native to the island. It's one of my favorite stops anytime I'm there!

I featured these little sandpipers in a reel, but I kept trying to get photos of them as well! I got to try some panning, but it was hard to keep up. They're very fast! I usually prefer a crisp photo but I kept coming back to this one - maybe the panning effect helped capture the movement/energy of this little birds, somehow? For my fellow photographers, especially wildlife photographers, if you have any advice for this, I'd love to hear it. I'm trying to break out of my comfort zone and learn new photography skills! I love featuring all the critters we encounter at the beach, and the sandpipers just have so much personality. I could watch them for hours!

I decided to get a little adventurous and try some long exposure shots while I was out at sunrise on the beach. I've been really interested in learning some new techniques (maybe intentional movement is next?) and had a lot of fun with these! I don't have any of the filters that would make this a bit easier - maybe I should invest? I still need to get the sand off my tripod as well. This morning had already felt like an impressionist painting, so I figured some of these shots wouldn't go amiss, especially since the beach there is so flat/long. What advice to you have for me?
