Have you ever stumbled across a place that completely surprised you?

That was my experience visiting Salida, Colorado for the first time. I expected a beautiful mountain town, but I wasn’t prepared for the energy, creativity, and happiness that seemed to be around every corner.

From surfboards along the river to colorful murals, funky art, charming storefronts, and endless photo opportunities, Salida felt like a town that celebrates creativity and adventure. Everywhere I looked, there was something worth photographing.

One of my favorite things about photography is discovering places that tell a story, and Salida certainly has a story to tell. It was impossible not to leave inspired.

Some girls graduate college… and some do it with a little extra country spirit. 🤠✨

Brittany wanted a senior session that felt authentic to her — western-inspired, confident, and full of personality. From the boots to the setting, every part of this session came together so naturally.

There were definitely a few Miranda Lambert vibes woven into this one, and we were absolutely here for it.

More than anything, we’re just incredibly proud of this young woman and everything she’s accomplished. Watching someone step into a new chapter with this much strength, grace, and determination is always an honor to capture.

We can’t wait to see where life takes you next, Brittany. The future is lucky to have you. 🖤

“When should we book senior photos?”

The truth is — earlier than most families think.

Most seniors are photographed the SUMMER or FALL before graduation because many schools have yearbook deadlines as early as September, October, or November.

Our best advice?
Book early.

Not only do dates fill quickly during peak season, but editing, gallery delivery, print ordering, and yearbook submissions all take time too. Typical gallery turnaround is about 2–3 weeks depending on season and workload.

Senior sessions today are so much more than a yearbook photo.
They’re about capturing WHO your senior is right now.

Sports.
Books.
Music.
Horses.
Pets.
Trucks.
Mountains.

Getting to photograph our Douglas County Rodeo Queen during her senior year was truly a dream come true. From the gorgeous scenery to the sweetest moments with her horse, every single detail felt magical — and honestly, we had SO much fun creating this session together 🤍

The storm was rolling in fast when they pulled up.

Rain started immediately, the wind picked up… and it was one of those moments where you think, “Do we call it?”

But she didn’t.

She was determined to get these moments, no matter what.

So we stayed. We waited it out, laughed through it, got a little soaked… and then just like that — it stopped.

The sky lit up, the mountains came back into view, and we had just enough time to capture something really special.

I’m so glad we didn’t walk away.

This Mommy & Me session at The Random Ranch Photography Studio is proof that sometimes you just have to trust it and stay a little longer.
