Next day up, but before heading out, I stopped one more time to watch the fishing boats going in/out of the harbour. Once I was on the road, I made a stop at a local farmer's market at the firehouse (met my innkeeper's family/friends, listened to a local musician play some Scottish ballads, bought some things from crafters), then stopped at Beulach Ban Falls. Once I was on the road again, Cheticamp was my destination (with stops at lookoffs, of course). After checking into my inn, I drove to Cheticamp Island to check it out. Finished the day back in town to watch the sunset over the island. Good day!

Ah.....continuing to post images from Nova Scotia.....woke up to a beautiful day in Bay St. Lawrence. Walked down the hill to the harbour. Took in everything on a walkabout. Fishing boats coming & going. The busyness of it all. Amazing!
I decided to tackle the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. A very touristy thing to do, but also very beautiful. Packed a lunch & provisions for the day, drove almost 2 hrs to the trailhead, stopping in Pleasant Bay for a break & walkabout (another fishing village & harbour). The Skyline hike was about 2km, through a scrub (?) forest, then wooden steps & stairs down a mountainside to the lookoff. Blue sky day, the views were fantastic. Then back to Bay St. Lawrence, returning in time to walk back down to the harbour & order up a fish dinner from the little food truck/shed. Delicious. Most boats were in the harbour for the night, so it was quiet. Was rewarded on the day with a spectacular sunset, that eventually sank behind the wildfire haze on the horizon. What a great day!

Reflecting back on this N.S. trip from a year ago.....coastal scenery is always stunning, but I'm convinced this is when my love affair with the little fishing harbours dotting the coast began. I found myself turning off the highway more than once just to check them out. So, on this particular day, leaving Ingonish Beach & heading toward 'The End of the Earth', as Bay St. Lawrence is referred to, I enjoyed more than just the scenery; I immersed myself in discovery - MacLeods Point, Green Cove Head, Black Brook Cove, Neils Harbour & White Point. These are the ones I remember, at least. I had a delicious seafood lunch @ the Chowder House & ice cream @ the lighthouse in Neils Harbour; went for a hike way out @ White Point! By late afternoon I arrived @ Burton's Sunset Oasis, my home for a couple days! I ended my day in an Adirondack chair to watch the sun set, but instead saw a hazy pink sky, compliments of the Canadian wild fires.

Leaving Baddeck, journeying to Ingonish! And a day of sunshine!
Stopped at the Gaelic College in St. Ann & toured the Hall of Clans, then a picnic in St. Ann's Cove. Scenery along the coast was spectacular! Stopped at the look off @ Pathend Brook & South Ingonish Harbour. Beautiful views, especially Cape Smokey! The next morning I walked the Middle Head trail just beyond the Keltic Lodge, then drove the coast up to Lakies Head. Great day!

On the trek from Lunenburg to Truro, my only stop was Peggy's Cove. It had been days of relentless rain & fog & all I wanted to do was keep driving to Truro, anxious to get to the Cabot Trail. But.....I also really wanted to see what Peggy's Cove was all about. I arrived. It was raining. Ate my lunch in the car. Rain let up. Did a walkabout to get my bearings, then returned to the car to fetch my 'real' camera. Sooooo glad I did. The lack of sunshine, but beautiful cloud cover, made for some spectacular images. And a memorable day! I hope you enjoy them!

A year ago I was in the early days of my 2-week trip to Nova Scotia & Cape Breton Island & the Cabot Trail. I think it's time to put up some images from this beautiful & memorable experience! Hope you enjoy my memories (over the course of the next few days)!
These images are from my first day, waking up in Yarmouth, driving to Cape Forchu to see the lighthouse, fishing boats & fog! Lots of fog! Then driving to Lunenberg via Cape Sable Island, taking in Hawk Beach (with the fog in retreat! Finally!).
