History rolled through Cedar Rapids, and I was lucky enough to catch it from the sky.

This is Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 — the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. It stretches about 133 feet long, weighs roughly 1.2 million pounds, and was originally built to haul heavy freight across the mountains during the World War II era. Today, it is the only Big Boy still operating, making this a pretty rare piece of American history to see in motion.

There is something incredible about seeing old-school steam power cutting through a modern city from a drone’s perspective. Cedar Rapids got a front-row seat to living railroad history.
