I recently photographed a ranch roping in Purcell Ok. Thousands of pictures to go through and as I got to work on them I started getting inspired by the horses. So I started writing…

//

I see the horses.
Closing their eyes before the rope pops
Pinning their ears as their cowboy loads up to throw. As if he’s dialing one in himself.

I see the horses
Carrying, giving their all
when they’d be just as well grazing at home.
But they find themselves here. Entered up for whatever reason.

I see the horses
Cocking a back leg once the ropes tight.
Confident. They’ve got it.

I see the horses
Asking which foot. This one. Now this one.
With one ear on the stock and another on the rider.

They reflect their cowboy
In confidence or lack thereof
In pride
In fight or flight
In posture
In grace
In step

I see the horses
And I can’t help be taught
To partner up when called.
Truly,
partner up.

A feed truck love story captured for my friend // my favorite part about this day was watching Ashlee just take it all in. The mud, rain, broken tent, cowboy wedding shenanigans- she truly lives out not sweating the small stuff, and I knew that about her before, but her joy was so steady on this day, it was a pleasure to capture it all. Ashlee you were a gorgeous bride all around! Thanks for having me ❤️
