"My dog could never do that."

I hear that all the time. 😊

The truth is, a pet photoshoot isn't about having a perfectly trained dog. It's about creating a positive experience where your pet is rewarded for every little success, whether that's sitting, looking at the camera, or simply exploring a new environment with confidence.

Treats, praise, and patience go a long way, and by the end of most sessions, your dog thinks they've just played the world's best game.

Want to learn more about how reward-based training helps create beautiful pet portraits? Check out my latest blog post!

If you’ve ever watched a behind-the-scenes moment at a pet photoshoot, it might look less like a formal portrait session and more like… a snack-fueled negotiation with a very cute CEO. 🐾 And honestly? That’s exactly what it is. Your Pet’s Photoshoot = One Big Training Session At its core,...

Happy Dog Mom’s Day to the women with fur-covered leggings, camera rolls full of sleeping dog photos, and a sixth sense for hearing a suspicious silence from another room. šŸ¾šŸ¤

The ones who know exactly which squeaky toy is ā€œthe good one.ā€
Who pack snacks, p**p bags, towels, backup towels, and somehow still forget their own water bottle.
Who celebrate gotcha days like birthdays and rearrange their entire bed around a snoring dog shaped cinnamon roll.

You are their safe place.
Their whole world.
Their favorite adventure buddy.

And someday, the photos you take together, muddy paws, gray muzzles, goofy smiles and all, become part of your family history in the most beautiful way.

So here’s to the dog moms:
The rescuers.
The trainers.
The treat dispensers.
The women who love dogs with their whole entire hearts.

Today belongs to you. 🌿🐶✨

I’ve been exploring something a little different lately…
fine art portraits of people.

Slowing things down. Being more intentional. Letting the mood, the light, and the connection do the talking instead of all the extra noise.

There’s something about this style that just clicks for me. It feels quieter. More thoughtful. More like creating something that lives beyond the moment.

But… if you know me, you know I couldn’t leave it there.
Because no matter how much I lean into photographing people… there’s always going to be a dog somewhere in the frame 🐾

It’s just who I am.
It wouldn’t be Ash and Alder without it.

So this is me exploring that balance,
the softness and storytelling of fine art portraiture… with the heart and soul that pets bring into our lives.

I’m still figuring out what this looks like and where it’s going,
but I do know this style resonates with me in a way I want to keep chasing.

So here’s to trying new things, trusting the pull,
and letting it evolve into whatever it’s meant to be. šŸ–¤

Last chance turned into a fighting chance. šŸ™
Parvo treatment isn’t cheap—but her life is worth it.

If you can help, please do.

We were her last hope. šŸ™

Her family was taking her home to die if we could not take her.

This is now the fourth puppy in the past month we’ve been asked to take in from emergency facilities —families seek help, only to learn it’s parvo and the cost of treatment is more than they can manage. And of course, we took all 4.

We are incredibly grateful for our parvo foster family who has opened their home to the recovery of these critical cases, and for our veterinarian team who helps at all hours—nights and weekends—to give these puppies a fighting chance.

A new treatment, Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody, is changing outcomes—helping puppies recover faster and with fewer complications. But it comes at a cost, often $400–$800 per puppy, plus supportive care - cost is driven by weight.

Here’s where we need help:

This is the first puppy in a litter of 7 to get sick. To treat her and protect the other six, we’re looking at approx $3,500 in medical costs. We can only treat what we have funds to cover.

Donations can be made directly to Gahanna Animal Hospital 614-471-2201 - She is under Brown Puppy — Rico Pet Recovery. She did not get a name yet.

If you’re able to donate, or share—please help us try to save them. Every dollar truly makes a difference. šŸ’›šŸ¾
