The Lady Aurora has done it again!!! It’s amazing what you’ll see when you’re not even expecting it! I’ve been so busy doing other things lately that I’ve been too tired to venture out at night until recently. Here I am at 5:58pm on November 11th, 2025, when I get a notification that the biggest CME impact in 20 years had hit. I thought it was a joke until I looked at the numbers and it literally blew my mind! Unprepared, I packed up my camera, tripod, and all the batteries (mostly uncharged) that I could find. I brought a car charger in hopes for the best. I didn’t stay out nearly as long as I’ve been out on some nights. In December 2023 I stayed out all night, got the sunset and the sunrise with the aurora. But I was tired, and my experience has helped me to get the pictures I want more quickly than before, so I didn’t mind when I went home at 1:30am with a ton of pictures and videos to show. I hear there might be another CME impact tonight so let’s see if I’m ready for this one!

Here are few favorites from last night!

Pollinator Madness!! Can you count how many Bess are in this picture?? 🐝

With such a warm early fall, the bees have still been in full swing on the autumn flowers! Not many flowers left, so you can see most of the bees all together and trying to get what’s left.

Such small, beautiful creatures so hard at work. We wouldn’t be here without bees and other pollinators so make sure to appreciate them while you have a chance!

The Face of a Bee 🐝

While I was visiting Saint Petersburg in Russia, we visited the Catherine Palace. Of course I was prepared to take more historical and scenery pictures, but what I wasn’t ready for was a gorgeous garden full of quite large bees!

As someone who takes a love for the smaller creatures in life, I took a portion of time taking pictures of these little guys.

This picture in particular stood out to me as it was towards the end of my shooting, and it was as if the bee was saying “okay you’re annoying me, just get the “shot” and leave” 😂😂

We can often see the backside of bees, but not often do we get to admire them from the front!

American Goldfinch sitting on a Blazing Star

I came to my local rain harden this morning for more hummingbird shots, instead I was discovered by a brightly colored American Goldfinch that flew in for a portrait shot!

Living in Minnesota, there isn’t a ton of large wildlife around, and if they are, you’d typically find them far outside of the cities. As much as I still dream of getting a large cat, a wolf or a bear, I’ve learned to really love and enjoy my time taking in the small things in life.

Not all birds are small, but the tiny ones peak my interest the most because of their quick movements and changes in direction, their ability to sit or hover around small plants and flowers, and the fact that manat of them are beautifully and brightly colored like this American Goldfinch here.

I can’t wait to see what other small treasures I capture in the coming future!
