Iceland near the Sn'fellsnes Peninsula.
This black church with a cemetery is in Iceland, located in a remote lava field on the Sn'fellsnes Peninsula. Originally built in 1703 and rebuilt in 1987, this iconic, isolated, and pitch-black wooden church is surrounded by a historic cemetery featuring old, weathered gravestones. The name of the church is B''akirkja (the Black Church of B??ir)
This picture was taken on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, around 11:30pm. I was using my Nikon Z9 with the 12-24mm, F/2.8 lens. My settings were as follows: the mode was manual, aperture was F/2.8, shutter speed was 5 seconds with a 2 second timer, Iso was 5600, Focus was on manual and first setting before infinity, white balance was 3500K, saved in Raw and Jpeg format. The camera was mounted on a tripod. The weather that night was windy (about 35 mph) with temperatures around 19 degrees Fahrenheit.
This picture is a panoramic shot consisting of 10 photos combined into a single shot using the program PTGui. First, I took 5 photos of the sky from left to right using the tripod. I then repeated the same procedure while taking landscape pictures. After aligning, stitching, and blending the overlapping images, I exported it to Adobe photoshop where I made slight enhancements to bring out the color of the Aurora, and cleaned up the noise from the higher ISO settings. In the section where the crosses were lit up, I toned down the red color so it would not overshadow the rest of the image.
