High in the Chilean Andes, the Vera Rubin Observatory has unveiled the first breathtaking images from its 3.2-gigapixel camera the largest ever built for astronomy. In a single 10-hour observation, it revealed millions of galaxies, swirling nebulae, and more than 2,000 previously unknown asteroids, rewriting what we thought was possible in sky mapping.
This powerful camera, part of the LSST (Legacy Survey of Space and Time), has a field of view wider than seven full moons. Its resolution and reach will allow scientists to scan and remap the Southern sky every few nights, creating an evolving picture of our universe in motion a true cosmic time-lapse.
More than a technological feat, itโ€™s a window into the origins and future of the cosmos. Every image captured helps trace how galaxies form, how stars die, and how our universe changes over time. The era of deep-sky discovery has only just begun. ๐ŸŒŒ
