As I head into my fifth year as owner, operator, and chief hype girl of Erin Hurst Photography, I wanted to use this post to re-introduce myself and wax poetic about this sweet little business I’ve built.

Second to my amazing fiancé, photography is the love of my life. I often can’t believe this is my job and that I get paid to hang out with incredible people and take beautiful pictures. Being a wedding and portrait photographer has introduced me to the coolest people and has afforded me the opportunity to visit places I’ve never been. A true dream come true!

Speaking of true, I’d also say that some days are pretty tough. Working for yourself comes with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and jealousy. I’ve spent more money out of my own pocket than I can count, missed many friends and family events to be with my clients’ friends and family, and cried. Lots. Oh and did I mention sore wrists, constant back and hip pain, and strained eyes?

But man, what a joy and true pleasure to be tired at the end of the day from something I wished so hard for. I can’t thank my clients, mentors, friends, family, and beautiful partner enough for the encouragement and support over the past four years.

Being a photographer is the most rewarding, fun, exciting job I’ve ever had and I hope to be able to do it here in Charleston, West Virginia and beyond until I can no longer hold a camera.

When you’re ready for vibrant images, a good time, and all the hype you can handle, I’m here for yah!

I was pretending to take my partner’s headshots at the overlook on the Carriage Trail when Kaleb and Rachel walked down to snap a few selfies. While she had a bit of an idea, she didn’t know where exactly or when it might happen so I’m especially glad I caught such a stunned reaction from Rachel when Kaleb presented her with a gorgeous, blinding emerald cut diamond ring.

They are as sweet as they are beautiful and we had a great time after the surprise proposal taking photos on the trail and inside 1010 Bridge, the restaurant where they had their first date. Special shoutout to the 1010 team for allowing us to pop in for some pics on a Sunday morning!

What a treat to witness the next phase of a couple’s love story. Congratulations, Rachel & Kaleb! Thank you for trusting me to document this sweet moment. 💍

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is when the bride does a first look with her dad.
A man who adores his baby girl and turns to see her in a wedding dress - it gets me every time!
Happy Father’s Day to the one who loved you first 💙

In addition to photographing beautiful weddings, I also love documenting events. Especially when they’re located in places I’ve never been!
This is my third time joining the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association for their annual convention. They scooped me up two years ago when their convention was at The Greenbrier. We had such a great time that I have been following them around the country ever since!
In between shooting the casual (yet very organized) registration, laid back welcome reception, morning meetings, fun and lively mix and mingles, and an afternoon at a dude ranch, I’ve been exploring Vail, Colorado. Have y’all been here?! My word it’s gorgeous! And the weather! I’ve never experienced such low humidity before! It’s amazing!
To , Alexandra, Patton, Coulter, and the whole team, thank you for having me. I love being your LADA historian!

It's gallery delivery day for Zoe & Christian! I met these lovelies last year when Christian reached out about photographing his proposal to Zoe in the rose garden at Ritter Park in Huntington. He was nervous, I was nervous, Zoe was surprised - it was wonderful!
Fast forward to May 16 of this year at their wedding in Webster Springs. Everything was going great and on time and just when we were all headed to the outdoor ceremony space, the sky opened all the way up and positively poured the rain. We quickly transformed the reception area to a new ceremony and if you hadn't been there for the rain, you'd never know that was the backup plan. Zoe told me her only goal for the day was to marry Christian - success!
The rain cleared up once it was time for bride & groom portraits and then everybody danced into the early evening.
They say rain on your wedding day is good luck. A wet knot is much harder to untie than a dry one. After getting to know these two, though, I don't think they'll need it. 🤍

A moment for the florals! I love arriving at a wedding or event and learning that is one of the vendors. Their team is a pleasure to work with and they always deliver the most beautiful product. The flowers at Nicole & Thomas’ wedding were luxuriously tasteful, deeply colorful, and expertly arranged. More to come from this stunning wedding at .1875 !

I was driving to a wedding about three hours away over the weekend (Blackwater Falls in Tucker County, WV) and said out loud in my car, “West Virginia, you sure are pretty!” Summertime here is the greenest, the prettiest, and just the sweetest. 💚

What I love most about photographing the Tuckwiller family is that Mary Catherine and Thomas allow their kids to be 100% themselves and encourage me to capture their family exactly as they are when I show up to the session. I'm able to get moments that are sweet and tender and also chaotic and hilarious (like Marin not wanting to wear her dress and Watts wielding some sort of barn weapon thing - check the last pic for that one 😅).
This was such a fun one. Thank you, as always, Tuckwiller fam!
