Six months.

Not everyone grows up in safety.

Some of us were children navigating things we should never have had to understand. Some of us learned how to survive long before we ever felt secure. Some of us carried secrets that were too heavy for a little girl.

Silence can protect a system. It does not protect a child.

For a long time, I minimized what happened to me. I told myself it was not that bad. I tried to keep peace. I tried to protect relationships. I tried to preserve the image of a family that felt easier to defend than to confront.

But healing requires honesty.

Generational trauma is real. When harm is not acknowledged, it does not disappear. It continues. It shapes identity. It shapes relationships. It shapes the way love and loyalty are defined.

I wish I had experienced more protection. I wish accountability had come sooner. I wish support had felt safer than silence.

I am not perfect. I am doing my own work. I am taking responsibility for my growth and my healing. I am learning how to become healthier than what I experienced.

Breaking cycles is not about revenge. It is about responsibility.

It is about understanding that secrecy is not the same as loyalty, and silence is not the same as love.

That work is not loud. It is not glamorous. It is often misunderstood.

But it matters.

And I am choosing it.

Ten years ago, they stood in this gazebo and promised each other forever.
