Senior picture outfits do not need to become a family emergency. 😅

You do not need six new outfits, three emergency shopping trips, and an entire group chat debating whether 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 shade of blue photographs well.

Start with what already feels like you.

Choose a couple of outfits you genuinely like wearing and that make you feel comfortable and confident. Maybe one is casual and feels like your everyday style. Maybe another is a little more dressed up. That's plenty.

As a 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿, I'd much rather photograph you in something that feels natural than put you in an outfit you chose simply because Pinterest said it was perfect for senior pictures.

And parents, you don't have to figure it all out either. We'll talk through outfits, location, and the overall look you want before your session.

The goal isn't to create an entirely new version of you for senior photos.

It's to photograph 𝘆𝗼𝘂, just with really good lighting. 😉

Wondering what to wear for newborn photos? Good news: you do not need to panic-buy an entirely new wardrobe the week before your session. 😅

For newborn family photos, I recommend keeping things soft, simple, and comfortable. Neutral colors like creams, whites, blacks, greys, and other muted tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus where it belongs: on your family and that very tiny new person you can't stop staring at. 🤍

For parents and siblings, think coordinated rather than perfectly matching. And for baby? I've got you covered. My studio has wraps and accessories ready to use, so there's no need to plan a collection of newborn outfits for one photo session.

As a Charlottesville newborn photographer, I'll also help you plan these details ahead of time so you're not standing in front of your closet the morning of your session wondering why everyone suddenly owns completely different colors. 😂

When should you book senior pictures? Ideally, start planning between spring and early fall of senior year.

Booking early doesn't mean your photos have to happen right away. If you're dreaming about fall colors, you can reserve your photographer in the spring or summer and schedule your actual session for fall. 🍂

Planning ahead gives you more choices for dates and locations, time to figure out outfits, flexibility if the weather doesn't cooperate, and plenty of time before your yearbook deadline.

And senior year already has enough deadlines. Your photos don't need to become another last-minute one. 😅

As a Charlottesville senior photographer, I recommend getting your session on the calendar early so we have time to create something that actually feels like you.

One of the best things you can bring to your newborn session?

Absolutely zero photography experience. 😂

You don't need to know how to pose, how to hold your baby “for the camera,” what to do with your hands, or how to convince a newborn to follow a carefully planned schedule.

That's what I'm here for.

I'll prepare the setup, guide you through family portraits, and work at your baby's pace. If we need to stop for feeding, changing, or cuddles, we stop.

Your job is much simpler:

Show up. Love on your baby. Let me guide you through the rest. 🤍

Because newborn photos shouldn't feel like one more thing you need to figure out after having a baby.

Your baby will never be this tiny again.

Rude, honestly. 🥹

Those curled-up legs. Tiny fingers wrapped around yours. Wispy little hairs. The way their whole body somehow fits perfectly against your chest.

When you're in the middle of the newborn days, it can feel like you'll remember every single detail forever.

And then they grow.

Not politely or gradually enough for my liking, either. 😂 One day you look down and realize the newborn scrunch is disappearing, their cheeks have changed, and somehow those tiny pajamas already don't fit.

As a Charlottesville newborn photographer, this is exactly why I love photographing this season as it is. Not because everything needs to be perfect, but because these are the little details you'll want to come back to when they're suddenly much bigger than the baby you remember holding.

Take the photos. Get in them, too.

And please print your favorites somewhere you can actually see them. 🤍

If you're wondering when to book your newborn photos, the answer is probably earlier than you think.

You don't need to wait until baby arrives or somehow predict their exact birthday. Reaching out during pregnancy gives us time to plan everything ahead using your due date, then we'll finalize your session date once your little one is actually here.

Because the first few weeks with a newborn already come with plenty to figure out. Your photo session doesn't need to be one of them.

And trust me it's much easier to plan this now than when you're running on newborn snuggles, reheated coffee, and whatever amount of sleep your baby has decided you're allowed to have. 😂
