A note on guest experiences 🐬🏊

If you’re going to have a destination wedding weekend in a tropical climate, consider this post some Official Peer Pressure into having poolside events (and/or pool days).

Today I’m thinking about the winds of change, and how you never know which direction they’ll come from.

I’m thinking about a surprise trip to Mexico just over three years ago with and how, in a way, it changed everything for me. It was my first time experiencing the type of elevated travel that focused on art as an experience of its own.

Everywhere we looked, there were handmade touches, loving and imperfect details, and an invitation to look closer at each and every corner. Every visual element was crafted by human hands - and that was the whole point.

I remember showing up at the beginning of our trip and thinking “Ah... I get it now.”

It’s where “hotel art” (the meanest words someone can say to you in art school) becomes a compliment. It becomes the “property’s art collection” instead.

It’s where a level of service doesn’t need to be flashy (though it certainly can be) because it has nothing to prove, only something to gently offer. The setting itself turns into an invitation. Come, stay, see, experience.

2025 was filled with experimentation, growth, and change. I stepped away from social media more often, got a new perspective on this industry (and the amazing people within it), and reframed what photography looks like in the larger framework of it all. It was a year of growth thanks to this new point of view... and I’m so excited to show you all of the things that have been blooming behind the scenes.

One of the honors of my career - getting the opportunity to photograph Tara LaTour’s 2026 bridal collection💕

Tara’s vision for this secretly edgy take on romantic spring colors absolutely gripped my heartstrings, and refuses to let go. Each dress is infused with both elegance and a subtle, non-traditional element. Honestly? If I were a bride today, I’d probably go for this show-stopping architectural floral dress in an *instant*

She didn’t ask me to write this or anything. I’m just a big fan (and I think you should be too). 😘

Spunky, colorful, fun-filled details from G+J’s destination wedding weekend in Mexico.

Sometimes, in the process of documenting a wedding, a color palette will just sort of jump out and say “Here I am!! Look at me!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is exactly what happened over their wedding weekend. While there were plenty of other colors, I found myself repeatedly gravitating toward all of these blue-and-orange or blue-and-yellow moments.

Giggling and kicking my feet because of this.✨

Not only did this image make it into Junebug’s Best of the Best Engagement Photos... but the subject at center stage is a farm cat, which is just about as on-brand as it gets.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I+E had one of the most spectacular sunrise engagement sessions I’ve seen, from the pre-dawn fog over the rolling hills to the sunlight gilding the sheep as they grazed in the morning dew. There was something about this relaxed, comfortable, playful morning that just felt so deeply honest and human.

The wedding guests are all mingling in a different room, but your grandparents stayed behind to wait for the dance to begin. The DJ is finishing his pre-reception sound check and making sure everything is air tight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gradually, you realize there’s a sweet, nostalgic song that’s playing through the open doors of the ballroom. You peak inside, only to find your grandparents slow dancing to a song that played at their wedding.
Today’s their anniversary too, after all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what it means to have vendors who love you, who listen when you talk, and who ask what’s important to you. This is what it looks like when everyone knows what (and who) you’re excited about.

The DJ got to know your grandparents to find the perfect song, even when nobody was looking. The caterers expedited cake-cutting so the dancing could begin a bit earlier, because they knew you wanted a little extra party time. The photographer watched certain family members a little bit more carefully, just in case.

When good teams come together, you’re sure to find magical moments that you never even knew to look for.

Taking today to post some very green postcard moments from a wedding weekend in South Dakota (in honor of both the holiday and my all-time favorite color).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A little fun fact for you: I always leave at least one day open (sometimes two) *just* for scene-setting photos, exploration, and getting acquainted with the environment. If you love a place enough to share it with guests from around the world, then showing off the scenery is the absolute least I can do. I believe destination wedding galleries should be filled with all the location elements that charmed you in the first place.
