What to bring to your senior portrait session:

📋 Outfits: 2–3 looks. One that feels like you on a regular day, one more elevated, one that tells your story — the sport jersey, the band shirt, whatever.
👟 Shoes matter more than you think. They're often in the frame. Avoid flip flops unless that's genuinely your aesthetic.
💄 Hair and makeup: do what you'd do for a nice dinner out. Not a performance, not nothing.
💧 Water and a snack. 60 minutes goes fast.
📱 A playlist. I always let seniors choose the music. It changes the whole energy.

Most importantly: leave yourself 30 extra minutes to get ready. Rushed sessions feel rushed in the photos.

What actually happens during a cake smash session:

We start with portraits before the cake — clean and happy, before anything gets messy. These are usually some of the most beautiful images from the whole session.

Then the cake comes in. Most babies touch it carefully at first. Then they look at you to see if this is actually okay. Then — it's chaos. Beautiful, frosting-covered, belly-laughing chaos.

After, I have a little tub ready to clean up in the studio.

The whole thing is relaxed and low pressure. I've never had a session where we didn't get something wonderful.

She was just born. And then she wasn't little anymore.

Milestone sessions exist because the first year moves faster than any other year of their life.

📸 The Sitter — around 6 months. That wobbly, proud little face exists for only a few weeks.
📸 The Stander — around 9–10 months. Curious about everything. One of my personal favorites.
📸 The First Birthday — 12 months. The cake smash. The full circle.

You don't have to do all three. But if you're going to do one — do the cake smash. It is genuinely one of the most joyful, chaotic, perfect hours I spend in my studio.

The outfit your child wears to a portrait session matters more than you think — and it has nothing to do with how fancy it is.

✦ Avoid bold logos and patterns. They date the photo and pull attention away from her face.
✦ Soft, solid colors or simple textures photograph beautifully. Creams, dusty pinks, sage green, warm whites.
✦ Dress her in something she can move in. Stiff, uncomfortable kids don't relax in front of a camera.
✦ Layer when you can. A cardigan over a dress gives you more variety within one session.
✦ Her everyday favorite outfit often makes the most meaningful portraits.
