This bluejay was interesting to watch. It flew to this perch with a nut firmly gripped in its beak. It looked around and then stretched tall, looking straight up at the sky. Then it gave a loud call, the one that sounds like a rusty metal hinge. One syllable, then looked around some more. Then stretched tall and called again. It did this over and over. Was it proud? Was it excited? Was it multitasking gathering food and declaring territory at the same time? I don't know, but animal behavior is fascinating.

Taken in Harrison Bay State Park in Tennessee.

It’s always exciting to see your work used in publications. Stumbled on this article in the online version of outdoor life, with my photo of a tom turkey in the woods for illustration. Feels like winning a Pulitzer! My name is getting out there!

I sell a lot of my photos through Adobe Stock, this is one example of an author paying a few dollars for digital download licensed use.

It’s just exciting!

Photographers, we are always searching and always trying to make that perfect shot. Golden hour lighting, lines that lead to your subject, multilayered compositions or minimalist compositions. Striving for perfection. But perfection is a trap. A truly good photographer will strive to do well with what’s in front of the lens. Rather than compensating for what’s not perfect, they will lean into the harsh light, compose to isolate the subject as best as the environment allows, and ultimately tell a story with that image.

Remember, many of the most iconic photographs ever made are not technically perfect or perfectly lit. They are evocative, and that’s pretty much the trick.

Male eastern bluebird with a worm for the babies.

This is a seriously deep crop, so much so that I've compromised the image quality. But getting a photo like this is a first so I just wanted to share anyway.

Sherri and I got some good shots of the Carolina wren family that is nesting in the bird house on our front porch. It's hard to see the baby, but you can see a small part of its beak in the house entrance.

I’m at Cloudland Canyon State Park this morning, just got back to the parking lot. Was a nice vigorous short hike to Cherokee Falls and back. I tried to do a short “here I am” video but my lav mic and phone had other ideas. Looks like I have a new thing to learn! Not a bad thing.

These pics were taken with my iPhone. I’ll post a couple later that I took with my camera.

Hope you like!

Very few of these bird's-eye speedwells are blooming in our yard now. They are such beautiful flowers, and so small they're easy to overlook.
