This bluejay was interesting to watch. It flew to this perch with a nut firmly gripped in its beak. It looked around and then stretched tall, looking straight up at the sky. Then it gave a loud call, the one that sounds like a rusty metal hinge. One syllable, then looked around some more. Then stretched tall and called again. It did this over and over. Was it proud? Was it excited? Was it multitasking gathering food and declaring territory at the same time? I don't know, but animal behavior is fascinating.
Taken in Harrison Bay State Park in Tennessee.
