I never posted this because it was more of a personal project I did, but I wanted to come back and share because it truly meant so much to me to be able to do this. A lot of people know that I’m an X-ray technologist as my profession, and photography is just my side hobby. My grandpa asked me a few months in advance to follow him around for the weekend of his Bracken Drum and Bugle Corps 100 year anniversary weekend. It was something he had been involved in his whole life, so I felt so honored that he asked me to do the events. My grandpa was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in the spring of 2024, and it was a less than 5 year expectancy if I can remember correctly. Every moment I could spend with my grandpa, I would. I remember when the date got closer and he asked me how much I charge for my photography, and when I told him, he said “I cannot afford you for a whole weekend! If you can get another gig, I wouldn’t be upset.” I took off work from my full time job to spend the weekend with him. I also gave him a discount for the weekend, because he did still want to pay me for my services. Seeing how much time and effort my grandpa put into the events was so incredibly inspiring, how dedicated he was to the history, and to honor the community he was apart of. It was something special. Meeting all the different people he has known for so long, listening to their stories, it reminded me of how much I loved and appreciated him in my life as well. He is so special to me, and this weekend will be something I will never forget. My grandpa is currently on home hospice and I am asking for prayers of comfort if you’ve made it through this whole post. I love you, grandpa. God bless you and keep you safe. 🤍
