Your Photos. Your Children. Your Consent. Always.

I’ve seen several posts going around in photography groups about a recent court ruling involving AI-generated CSAM, and because I photograph so many children, I wanted to address it. Some of the information being shared makes this ruling sound much broader and scarier than what was actually decided.

No, a court did not just rule that anyone can take a photograph of your child, turn it into sexual AI content, and that it is now completely legal.

The case being discussed involved AI-generated children who could not be linked to actual, identifiable children, and the ruling dealt with a very specific federal law and private possession. That is very different from someone taking the photograph of a real, identifiable child and sexually manipulating it with AI. Laws regarding this also vary by state.

But I want my clients to know something that has been true throughout my entire 23 years as a photographer: your safety, your children’s safety, and your consent have always been a priority for me.

I have always asked permission before publicly sharing my clients’ photographs. I have never believed that hiring me to photograph you or your child automatically gives me permission to put those images on social media. If a parent says no, the answer is no. No explanation is needed, and I completely respect that decision.

AI didn’t make me start caring about consent or privacy. Those things have always mattered to me.

AI technology certainly gives all of us new things to consider when sharing photographs online, especially photographs of children, and I will continue to take those concerns seriously. But I also don’t want parents to panic because of posts suggesting that the law suddenly made it completely legal for people to take photographs of real children and create CSAM from them. That is not what this court ruling said.

Protecting our children matters. Respecting consent matters. And making sure the information we share is accurate matters too. ❤️

One of my favorite things about photography is getting to follow families and watch their babies grow. 🤍 I photographed the twins as newborns, and now getting to create for their family again makes this one extra special.

I’ve never been a huge fan of cookie-cutter photography, but over the years my creativity has grown into something even more artistic. I love taking the photographs I create and using Photoshop and other creative tools to bring nursery rhymes, storybook scenes and completely unique ideas to life. ✨

The photograph is always the foundation — I just love seeing how far my imagination can take it.

I love taking the images I photograph and transforming them into something completely unique — an enchanted carousel garden, a whimsical storybook world, a themed collage, or something created specifically around what YOUR child loves.

My finished creative pieces can involve a combination of my original photography, Photoshop, digital compositing, and newer creative tools depending on the artwork. I still personally photograph my clients, choose the concept, select the images, build and blend the final scene, from past works and current. I work with the colors and details, and put everything together into the finished piece. ❤️

At the heart of it, these are still your child’s real photographs, expressions and memories — I’m just giving myself a much bigger creative canvas to turn them into something magical. ✨
The Creative concept has come from years of me figuring out new concepts and imagery.
