Interesting and rare phenomenon occurring this week in the ER. When water temperature goes below 40 degrees Specked Trout begin to die. It’s called “cold stun” and the fish become very lethargic. We had a period of time where the water temperature was in the 30’s and now we have a warm up. The black mud bottom warms up in the sun and the fish enter the shallows to warm themselves and survive. Unfortunately many will not make it. The good news is that many will and they are prolific reproducers. It’s a cycle that plays out repeatedly, the last stun was in 2013.
