Russell Pugh Photography Russell Pugh Photography brings passion for landscape and nature photography to you. He hopes to one day be one of the Top Landscape Photographers in the world.

Russell Pugh was born and raised in Ohio where his passion for photography began with just a simple Kodak 110 his parents gave him. In November of 1992, he enlisted in the Navy and remained in the Navy for 24 years, until he retired from it. During his time in the Navy his passion of photography would fall to the wayside, but occasionally he would pick up the camera to capture the beauty of every

subject he could. Russell decided to follow his passion into Fine Art Landscape Photography shortly before retiring from the Navy. He graduated from the Art Institute of Virginia Beach earning his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts degree in Digital Photography. While attending school he participated in several art shows during his time there. Russell brings his passion for landscape and nature photography to you. Through his imagery he brings the outside world into yours, to help you see and appreciate what’s beyond your city. His commitment to you is to help bring out your adventurous side with his images, and inspire you on your own. Russell enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, which include but are not limited to, hiking, surfing, snowboarding, night photography, climbing ridiculous steep hills, traveling, and just being awed at what mother nature produces.

There’s something timeless about a place like this—where layers of ancient stone frame the journey of water, and autumn leaves add a touch of color to every ledge and pool. The soft light filtering through the trees, the cascading waterfalls, and the moss-covered rock create a scene that feels almost untouched by time.
Moments like this are why I love exploring and photographing the places where nature tells its own story.

I have already started to make plans on chasing the fall colors especially with how hot the summer has been. Here is a little fall colors with a small water fall for Waterfall Wednesday.

It's been a while since I posted here on FB. I have found that I needed to take a break from Social Media more this year. This is from a recent family vacation we took to Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio.

The night before we hiked here, it had rained pretty hard all night, which set up this beautiful waterfall over Ash Cave. What you don't see in the photo is all the people who were in it. Thanks to Photoshop and AI, they were all removed. I can print this image pretty large thanks to AI. This is the only time you will ever hear me say I used AI for anything.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday.

As the last light of day brushes across the peaks, the still waters reflect a scene that feels almost too perfect to be real. Moments like these remind us that nature doesn't need to shout to leave a lasting impression—it simply asks us to slow down and take it all in.

The remants of Frisco Pier stood as a reminder that even as time changes the landscape, beauty never fades. With the Atlantic surf rolling in and the sky set ablaze in shades of orange, pink, and blue, it's impossible not to pause and appreciate another incredible evening in the Outer Banks.

Beneath the Pier at First Light on New Year
There's something magical about greeting the day before the world fully wakes up. As the first rays of sunlight painted the clouds in soft shades of gold, pink, and blue, the waves rolled gently beneath the pier, reminding me that every sunrise is a fresh beginning.
Sometimes the best views aren't just at the end of the pier—they're underneath it, where the rhythm of the ocean meets the quiet of a new day.

Some nights everything comes together. Clear skies, calm air, and the Milky Way arching perfectly over the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Standing on the beach in complete darkness, with only the lighthouse beam sweeping across the sky, is an experience that never gets old. These are the moments that remind me why I love photographing the night.

As the first rays of sunlight peek beneath the pier, the sky comes alive with glowing clouds, golden reflections, and the soothing rhythm of the waves. Moments like this remind me that sometimes the best way to start the day is simply to stop, breathe, and watch God put on his daily show.
Here's to chasing sunrises and finding beauty in every dawn.

There’s something magical about watching the first light of day paint the sky while the weathered remains of ancient trees stand silently along the shoreline. At Boneyard Beach in Huntington Beach State Park, the contrast between the twisted driftwood, gentle waves, and vibrant sunrise colors creates a scene that feels both timeless and peaceful.

This morning’s display of soft pastel hues, glowing reflections, and sculptural tree silhouettes was a reminder that beauty can be found in even the most unexpected places. Nature’s artistry never disappoints.
