My patients in the ER use to come in dressed in a total mess… there were many layers of clothes and dirt to wade through . They got a bath and a clean set of clothes when they were with me . I got teased about bathing “ Walter “ … he was a frequent patient of mine . Everytime he left, he left with new shoes and socks and clothes . When he came back in , those clothes remained under many layers … so we started again . Bath .. shave ( once thr shaking stopped ) and a new set of clothes .
I saw him years later when he was clean . He stopped me in the hallway where he was the visitor ..
I can’t tell this story without feeing a certain way , and tears kinda start to poke through my eyes ..
that day in the hall … he hugged me and said “ thank you nurse , I asked for you to be my nurse every time I went in “ … thank you Walter . Rip
