I have so many photos that I’ve never shared from May 10-12, 2024 solar storm.

This one was shot in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. While I was trying to switch up different landscapes, I noticed the sky was going nuts again between driving times so I hurry up and pour it off into a little corner. Walked about 30 or 40 yards off. The parking lot stepped in a puddle of I hope water and shot this wall of color dancing and eventually push pushing overhead!

In the summertime, it’s a little rare that we have the northern lights occurring especially in Missouri. On this night, not only did we have the Aurora, but we had a full moon and a distant thunderstorm. That distant thunderstorm produced a red sprite while we were having the ongoing in Missouri. The red sprite kind of blends in with the Aurora so it’s the left side of the frame. You can see a different color red than what’s happening in the aurora.

Truth be told is I never thought I would get this combo in Missouri. I always thought I would have to go South Dakota or Iowa or somewhere up north and have a distant thunderstorm with the Aurora ongoing.

While I was out in Arizona and Utah, I took a trip up to Moab Utah to hang out with my friend Frank and Matt who were in the area and they invited me out to do some National park shenanigans and stargazing.

Our original goal was to shoot the Milky Way over the double Arches but the clouds had other plans for us. We did have a short window of clear skies and saw a couple meteors like the one below and a distant thunderstorm that was up near Salt Lake City.

I have one more trip coming up here in two months. Should be a great weekend with friends!

Nothing special, but we had a beautiful bright burnt orange/red ish fireball occurred last night. The full moon shining right into this spot and so typically any small ones get washed out by the moon but the brighter ones you have a better chance on capturing or even seeing them and lucky for me I saw this one.

If you are not outside right now, watching the moon, you still have time until 1253 local time in Missouri to catch the orange glow in front of the moon. It is called a lunar eclipse. I find them kind of fascinating, but here’s what the moon currently looks like. It will not be a full eclipse. It is like a 90% or something like that grab some binoculars and you can see the stars around the moon as well.

Have you ever found that perfect spot where you can just kind of sit there all day and enjoy the nice weather with beautiful scenery? I found the exact spot outside of Flagstaff Arizona a few weeks ago.

Just imagine the slight breeze blowing in your face while White puffy clouds start to build. For a few minute you forget where you’re at and you’re at your most peaceful moment.

Though this place is next to a forgotten Highway I can only imagine how busy this little pull off was when this was the only highway going across America. This is the famous Route 66. Start in Los Angeles and go through St. Louis up to Chicago.

I will say there are some beautiful towns like Shamrock, Texas that you will pass through and wonder what it was like way back then.
