It was an honor to spend Saturday night at Doing It Wrong Dairy in Gilman, Wisconsin to capture Jeff Corle's latest stop on his Barnstorming Tour of America to raise awareness for farmer mental health and su***de prevention. If you've been around here a while, you know mental health is something I care deeply about. Jeff has built quite the following since releasing his original song, 'Empty Barn', in 2022 after selling his dairy cows.

His opening act was no slouch, either! Nebraska's own Grant Kubie made the trek up to Taylor County and charmed the audience with covers of country hits spanning several decades. That dude is one of us.

The barn herself has quite the story to tell, too. Tristan Swartz (proprietor of Doing It Wrong Dairy) purchased this farm from his late neighbor and mentor, Tom Victory, and he himself has built a massive following on social media. Tom passed away a couple of years ago and Tristan has been putting in a lot of hours restoring Tom's barn to her former glory.

Anywho, enjoy some pictures!

Sometimes, when I'm feeling a little blue, I grab the camera and hop in the gator and head out to the pasture with a close eye on the setting sun. The magic that followed all but cured what was ailing me.

Good evening!

As October tends to do, it filled up fast and I currently only have Halloween weekend open for photos this October. If you're looking for fall colors for a senior session, family photos, or a sweet engagement adventure (I have 2027 openings for weddings, hint hint) hurry on over into my messages and book!!

September and November are much more flexible per usual - the only weekend I have booked in September so far is the weekend of the 26th.

Either way, don't delay! Life is short; take the pictures.

Until then, here are a few of my favorite fall photos from the last couple of years as inspiration for your next session with me 😉

Saturday's wedding was full of celebration, love, emotion, and ultimately joy at two families becoming one! And, of course, getting married on their farm just made it that much more personal and intimate. From floral arrangements pieced together from their pastures and ditches, to the little tidbits of dairy humor woven into their wedding vows, to driving their gator over to their beautifully decorated reception, every detail of Tom and Deb's wedding day paid homage to their love for grass-based dairying and for each other.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Moos!

Thursday night's senior session was a farm girl fairytale! We started off at one of my favorite coffee shops (actually used to be the old Barron rail depot), played in the water, and then back to the farm to frolic with some cattle and sheep - and glitter and ribbons.

I can't wait to see what this pretty gal does with her future!

Also, gimme all the farm kid seniors.

I first met Abbie VanderWal when I joined Twitter in 2019; this was back when her handle was obsessedwzebras and I was farmerinflannel. We quickly became pals, chatting nearly every day and always cheering each other on from our respective corners of northwestern Wisconsin and southwestern Minnesota. From corn and conservation to Jesus and just plain life, our friendship is built on a plain ol' inborn fondness for rural living.

Last fall she had told me about a fellow she met from South Dakota. I thought I'd heard his name was Wyatt but I was mistaken and it was actually Shad (there's your token inside joke for the day). As time went on it became even clearer that what Abbie had with Shad was truly something special - and when there's nothing in the way of stopping you from getting married, just go on ahead and do it as soon as possible.

After thoroughly fleshing out all possibilities, we nailed down a date and a location. Plans were made, chore help was arranged, itineraries were written, and hotel stays were booked. July 8th became more than just a Wednesday or a target on the calendar - it became the day two joined as one at 5,476 feet above sea level. God was with us on that mountaintop at Custer State Park and you'll never be able to tell us otherwise.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Shad VanderWal! May God bless and keep you both always.

Oh, and I guess I shoot elopements now!

Location: Custer State Park

I don't often have a hard time finding the words for posts like these, but it's difficult for me to convey just how special it was for me to get to serve this couple as their wedding photographer. After all, this family was one of my very first clients. They rolled the dice on a beginner and we've been together for the ride ever since.

I first began working with the bride, Hannah, and her mom, Tracy, in the fall of 2018. I took her brother Mitchell's senior photos and some photos for her as well since she had just earned her American FFA Degree. That winter, Hannah came up to our farm for a photo session as the Wisconsin Red and White Queen. A few months later, we did an end-of-life session for a deeply loved show cow who we knew was about to leave the earthly realm. Two years after that, we took that dearly departed show cow's daughter for a walk across the UW-River Falls campus to commemorate her graduating summa cm laude - which is when I met her boyfriend, Jasenko, a cattle fitter from Minnesota.

When Hannah reached out to me a couple of months ago and asked if I had plans on the 4th I said, "I do now." (pun not intended) Capturing her and Jasenko's wedding day meant so much to me not just as their wedding photographer, but getting to see the culmination of so many smaller moments and milestones wrap up in a story only God Himself could have written was beyond beautiful and meaningful. We didn't quite get the golden hour sunset photos we planned on at the end of the day, but the dark storm clouds rolling in gave us jaw-dropping views to cap off an unforgettable Independence Day.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Gavranovic! May God bless and keep you both always.
