Heather Colson Photography

Heather Colson Photography Photographer located in Cheyenne and out of Rawlins Wyoming. Now on instagram: hcolsonphoto I have always loved having a nice camera.

I remember from college on, trying to find the best point and shoot cameras. Obviously I had a very small budget, but “what could I afford that would give me the best photos” was the goal. Fast forward some years, and I was expecting a baby. I reached out to a few of the best local newborn photographers, and I understand you get what you pay for…. But I could not afford their rates. After purchasi

ng formula, diapers, and medical bills – it felt as though that was not going to be our best option. I purchased a SLR instead, and made it my goal to make it more affordable for families like mine. I took some college classes and learned the basics. Took thousands of photos for everyone I could as an enthusiastic hobbyist, self-learned photo editing software, and stumbled into the photographer I am today. I am still trying to offer my best all while keeping a families budget in mind. I try to be as flexible and accommodating with families as I can be because I know what being a mom feels like. Photos shouldn’t be stressful, and that is why I am where I am today!

There is something so special about photographing the anticipation of welcoming a new little one, and last night's maternity session was pure magic.

We made the most of every moment of the golden hour, and the light could not have been more mesmerizing. Mom chose two absolutely stunning gowns that photographed beautifully, and together they created such a timeless, elegant look.

But what truly made this session unforgettable was the love between these two. Mom and Dad-to-be are absolutely crazy about each other, and it shines through in every single image. Their laughter, the quiet moments, and the excitement of becoming parents made this gallery one of those sessions that reminds me why I love what I do.

This definitely isn't my typical sneak peek. I usually share just a handful of images, but last night was simply too spectacular not to share more. Every photo felt like a favorite, and narrowing them down was nearly impossible.

Congratulations to this sweet family as they prepare to welcome their little one. 🩷

💛💜Saratoga High School Class of 2027!💜💛

I had the pleasure of photographing this amazing Saratoga senior on Sunday (he was the second winner of my Post Prom Senior Photo Package). We spent the evening in the breathtaking (although VERY hot) Snowy Range, ending our session at Libby Flats, and honestly, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening.

The mountains gave us an incredible backdrop, but what made this session truly special was how wonderful this senior and his mom were to work with. Their kindness and easygoing spirit made the entire evening so enjoyable. Thank you for allowing me to photograph at your stunning cabin!

I cannot thank this family enough for such a memorable session. I truly hope our paths cross again in the future! {J} Wishing you the very best of luck in all of your sports and an unforgettable senior year ahead! 🎓

Kicking off my Class of 2027 senior season with such an incredible young lady make for the perfect start! 🎓

I had the privilege of photographing one of the winners of my Saratoga Post Prom Senior Session Giveaway, making her my first Class of 2027 senior of the year.

There is something truly magical about photographing in the Snowy Range Mountains. The scenery has such an ethereal, breathtaking quality that creates the most beautiful backdrop for senior portraits. We were lucky enough to find a filed full of daisies and made sure to embrace that gorgeous setting as much as possible but honestly, almost every location we came across that day was spectacular.

Beyond the beautiful surroundings, the best part of this session was getting to know this amazing young lady and her family. She is bright, funny, articulate, and such a genuinely wonderful person. It was easy to see how proud her parents are, and I truly enjoyed the conversations and laughs we shared throughout the evening.

Thank you for trusting me to capture such an important milestone. I am so grateful our paths crossed and that I has the opportunity to work with your family. I truly hope this won't be the last time our paths meet.

{H} Congratulations on your senior year - I sincerely hope you have the best year and enjoy every moment of it!!

A couple of months ago I had the honor of photographing my cousin's grandson in Torrington, and I realized I never shared a little preview. 💙

This handsome little guy was the cutest little Winnie the Pooh. 🍯He looked absolutely precious, and his session was so much fun.

One thing I always want parents to know is that I'm a baby-led posing newborn photographer. That means I never force a pose. If a baby isn't comfortable with something, we simply move on to another pose that they are happier in. Their comfort and safety always come first. This little sweetheart, though? He was perfectly content all snuggled up in his swaddle and made my job so easy.

Thank you for trusting me to capture these precious first memories. These tiny moments go by so incredibly fast, and it's such a privilege to preserve them forever. 🤍

I know I created a separate Newborn album and thought I'd get around to posting my past newborn work eventually. Here was a snippet of the Newborns I got to photograph in 2025. One newborn (not featured was in Cheyenne), one in Ft. Collins, and FIVE babies out of Rawlins! I did a little traveling last year!
