They say not to meet the people that you admire and look up to. I found that to be a good motto for the most part, however yesterday was different. Brian and I spent the day with Michelle and Michael Magill Photography at their gallery in Cheyenne. We arrived with our dear friend Steven Drew who is a PHENOMENAL western artist, to spend the day surrounded by art, artists, and what would become lifelong friends.
I have admired Micheal Magill’s work for YEARS. I stare in awe at what he can do through a lens, I have for many, many years. Honestly, I assumed him to be a little….well let’s just be my normal blunt self, arrogant, prior to meeting him in person. How could anyone not be with talent like that? He is the direct opposite of arrogant. I found him humble and truly kind, one of the most genuine people I have ever met.
Michelle greeted us with a smile that I’m not sure ever left her face the entire day, which looked exhausting me but she’s just one of those really nice people that makes everyone feel welcome and at home the second you walk in the door.
How did we connect originally? Through our dear mutual friend who was an incredible photographer and leather worker and passed away from cancer a few years ago. Brandon was a top hand human and it was surreal to have his friend groups join up in person yesterday.
People hung out for hours. Why? The art is amazing but the vibe there is indescribable, you just have to experience it. All that to say, just go. Go and experience it. I can’t say anything more than that, just go and see and feel for yourself. It’ll be unlike any gallery or art store you have ever been in. It’s not a store, it’s an experience.
