Last photo from the 10th. What a magical night. This was a bucket list item for me. Hopefully the solar maximum continues to deliver over the winter.

A brief tornado spins up beneath our storm SW of Seibert, CO. This beast dropped a couple brief spin ups while we watched. We quickly repositioned as we got pelted with hail.

After a few down days, finally got some solid storms to roll through the plains on June 7th. Still catching up on editing photos, but this lightning strike is one of my favorites from that day.

We were just SW of Atlanta, NE and followed this series of storms for several hours, ending with a spectacular lightning show at sunset.

Beautiful mammatus clouds over Stinnett, TX on June 6th. We chased a decent little storm that dropped ping pong ball sized hall.

We intercepted this tornadic supercell SW of Seibert, CO yesterday evening. Three cells formed earlier in the day. The remained a wet mess for a long while and we thought maybe they'd give us a decent shelf cloud. However, two storms remained discrete and eventually dropped a brief tornado.

Had some perfectly clear skies yesterday evening. Took the opportunity to shoot the emission nebula surrounding the star Sadr. Turkey, TX, at bortle 3, are the darkest skies I've had the opportunity to shoot under.

Gamma Cygni, officially named Sadr, is a star in the northern constellation of Cygnus, centered in the picture. Sadr is a supergiant, with about 12 times the mass of our sun. The surrounding emission nebula, referred to as the Sadr Region, is located about 5000 light years away from Sadr. The region also includes IC 1318, the butterfly nebula.

Captured from Turkey, TX (bortle 3):

NGC2238: The Rosette Nebula

The rosette nebula and associated star cluster are about 5,000 light years from earth.

This image is 16 five minute exposures or 1hr and 20minutes. I used an Optolong L-eXtreme filter to isolate only the Ha and OIII bands of light, effectively eliminating the light pollution from the city. This was the first real test of the new gear and I am extremely happy with the output.

Captured from my rooftop in Chicago (bortle 9).

Drove down to Upland, IN, about 3 hours from Chicago. I was very concerned about cloud cover, but it all worked out. I used my ZWO AM5, Redcat51, and Nikon Z7II to track and photograph the eclipse. I used a Spectrum Telescope Chromium Film Aluminum Cell Solar Filter from Mile High Astro.

My first total eclipse. It was amazing. Everything I hoped for. It such a wild experience. Thankfully all the gear worked w/o issue. The weeks of research paid off, so I could just focus on the eclipse and let the gear do its thing while I enjoyed.

Opposite our LP supercell on June 10th, 2023 were these beautiful anticrepuscular rays. I had never seen anything like these, where the rays converge to a vanishing point. It was a beautiful sunset.
