Valley view (Yosemite National Park) at day and night. The first photo was taken on Monday morning trying to find a spot and framing for a Milky Way shot. The second photo was taken on Tuesday night (Monday night was cloudy) when I went back to the same location. In the second photo you can also see two climbers on El Capitan (rock formation on the left) as you can see their headlights

I was expecting to photograph a black bear during our time in Yosemite and Sequoia. As far as bears go, I only saw one, the only morning I was out without a camera (obviously). BUT, completely unexpectedly, we found a spotted owl and its owlet in Sequoia NP! This sighting brings my owl species photographed to 7!

Yosemite National Park at night. Last week we went on a trip to Yosemite and Sequoia national parks.
Saying that they are incredible places is an understatement but what really got me were the night skies. Stepping out of the car in the middle of the night leaves you speechless for the amount of starts over your head!
Here is a shot of the Milky Way rising over El Capitan (left) and Bridalveil Fall (right) with the Merced river flowing in the foreground as seen from Valley View.
This photo is a merge of a 15 second exposure for the sky and a 90 second exposure for the foreground

One last great horned owl nest. Of the three nests I had the privilege to photograph this season, this is the one where I was able to see the growth of the owlets from hatching to fledging. These photos in this carousel are ordered from most recent, just before they left the nest few weeks ago, to the oldest one, when the owlets had just hatched.

Barred owlets on the go! Here another set of owlets who have left the nest a couple of weeks ago and are now out exploring. Here are some photos from when they were still in the nest few weeks ago.

The first photo was taken on the last night I saw them in the nest, when the moon happened to rise directly behind the tree cavity, creating that final photo.

Great horned owlets. These two owlets fledged about a month ago. I only got to see them a couple of times but here are 3 of my favorite shots of them
