Welcome to the series where I completely declutter my home and create my husband and I’s dream home. Over the past couple of years we have accumulated a LOT of stuff. Between our parents downsizing, losing loved ones and moving more than a couple of times things have just gotten a little out of control to say the least. So hang out with me as I go through everything we own and rehome the things that no longer light us up.

The Anti Shopping List
-0
Before you pull up your handy dandy app on your phone and order whatever came to mind a few minutes ago, or book a simple service, ask yourself these questions.
1. Is there something I already own that I can repurpose for this task instead of purchasing new?
2. Do I already own this object and can I just reuse it instead of purchasing it again?
3. Do I know someone who owns this object or is there somewhere local where I can borrow the object instead? A place like a library or local tool shed.
4. Is this something someone close to me could potentially share with me, or is this something someone close to me might like to use as well? Like a stick of butter, a cup of sugar or a large purchase like a juicer or a tool.
5. Is there something in my community I could use instead or someone In my community that could help me? Or is this something a small business in my community might have?
6. And last but not least, this something I could make instead of purchasing? Could I do my own spin on whatever this item I’m longing for is.
If every person asked themselves these questions before making one purchase, imagine how much more connected, beautiful, unique and supported we all could be.

When it come to living a low buy no buy lifestyle the BEST thing that has come out of it, is the peacefulness that is paired with it. Living a no buy lifestyle can sort of make you immune to ads in a way and keeps you out of what feels like a constant feeling of not having enough or being enough. Once you realize that you don’t need to be constantly searching for new things to add to your life you can slow down and just be.

Some of my favorite slow moments from December.
This year had been a WHIRLWIND with so many highs and some of the lowest moments I’ve ever experienced we are being honest. Heading into the new year though I am hopeful and excited for everything to come and I can’t wait to bring you along with me.
Cheers to a new year of hope and fun and so much joy.

I have 60 days left in my 20s and I am so ready to head into this next decade of my life. I have SO many big goals so I want to make sure I’m feeling good, rested and ready for this next phase of life.

Welcome to Becoming Her, my series where I take the next 60 days to transform myself into a new version of myself.

As a low buy no buy household I have a tendency to accumulate a lot of things and I also tend to hold onto things a lot longer than I should. In Season 1 of this series I’m decluttering my life so I can focus on my goals as I head into this next decade.

I love how sustainable my bathroom has become over the last couple of years but somehow I still have accumulated SO many items these last five or so years! Here are some of the staples I love having around though.
moisturizer
hair products
Deodorant

Come back tomorrow for part two!

The number one thing that I struggle with when it comes to sustainability is keeping track of my finances, so I am on a mission this year to get on top of my finances so I can start making more financially responsible decisions and start saving for our future.

Tracking your finances and moving up financially is one of the most underrated things to improve your sustainability and it is something that I feel extremely privileged to be able to work on. Here are 4 reasons tracking your spending is a sustainable way to live.

1. Those who know how much money they have can distribute their funds responsibly and ethically. Most with more control of their financials are able to spend more confidently and purchase things from small businesses that align with their values!
2. When you’re financially secure, you can invest in future items that will last much longer. When you get in a cycle of consumption in which you’re purchasing cheap, poorly made items, you end up having to consumer more, rather than just using the original item you purchase for years.
3. You are able to maintain what you already own. If something breaks a little, you can get the item repaired, before something extremely damaging occurs.

These are just a few ways being financially secure and confident in your finances can help you to be more sustainable. I’m excited and super nervous to share my journey!

10 ways to find happiness in your life today
1. Pretend you’re a time traveler and you chose this day to come back and relive. How would you act if you were living it for a second time savoring the moment.
2. Call someone you love that you haven’t spoken to in awhile just to check in. Make sure to tell them you love them!
3. Write down 5 things that you’re really obsessed with in life right now during your lunch.
4. Get 5 minutes of sunshine, even if it’s through a window.
5. Drink your morning tea or coffee or water nice and slow. Really savor the feeling that comes with it.
6. Listen to your favorite album or playlist in the car. Play it just a little louder today so you can sing a little louder too.
7. Draw a doodle. Pick something that makes you laugh, mix your favorite food with an object that you see around you.
8. Do something goofy to make your favorite person laugh today. Send them a Meme, pass them a funny note during a meeting, surprise them with a funny face when they’re coming around the corner.
9. Take a walk! If you can’t walk outside where you are, pop into a store you haven’t been to and explore for 10 minutes. Walk around and take in your surroundings.
10. Give yourself some love today because you chose happiness.
I hope this brought a little joy to your day and reminded you that you and your life is enough today.

We are making sure the things we already own LAST, hang out with me while I give my gym shoes a refresh.
Here are the steps I took to clean up my shoes.
1. Take apart your shoes, set the souls aside if they don’t need a wash and throw your laces in a garment bag to go into the wash.
2. Wash the exterior of the shoe to get off all of the mud, normally l use an old tooth brush that we don’t need anymore to get into the crevices but we didn’t have any, so a rag did the trick.
3. I LOVE this stain spray and have been using it for a little over a year. It does a great job and did wonders on my shoes. I sprayed down my shoes, let them sit for 5 minutes
4. Next I threw my shoes in the wash with an Ever Spring laundry sheet to get a little extra stain fighting power.
5. I repeated the same steps again, adding the stain remover and another Ever Spring sheet for the wash and was able to get my shoes pretty darn clean.
Though taking care of the things we already own my might not be as exciting as thrifting new clothes or replacing products with more sustainable options, it is arguably the most sustainable practice you can do!
I LOVE my shoes, I wear them almost every day and they LAST. I’ll be wearing these shoes until my toes are poking through the front!
