This wedding was a learning experience.
I value communication and pre-planning. After working this wedding, those values were reinforced even more!
In short, the photographer that was to be at this event was sick. I was called to see if I could cover. I was hesitant as this was about 2.5 hours away from me and VERY short notice. (The start time was 3 hours from when I received the call, I had just woken up to this call.) I accepted, I managed to get through the day, and captured as much as I could that the bride requested. Although the images came out beautifully, the bride was not happy. I only found this out after. She was perfectly pleasant and even asked to give me a hug before I left.
Ultimately, I learned 2 things. First, not building a relationship with the couple set a different tone for the day. Missing the opportunity to speak with the bride and groom beforehand left me in the dark and unable to set a realistic set of expectations. Second, lack of communication with the DJ. Not only is it important to build relationships with your clients but also the vendors you work with. They also set the tone.
Relationships, communications, and planning are key.
If these keys are what you value send me a message. I would love to work with you!
