I cannot believe Dolly Parton has left us. She was such a force for good and such a treasure! I came across this mural when we visited Nashville a few years back. How I wish I could have met her in person. But for now, I remain comforted by her music, her kindness, her humor, her legacy and Dollywood! “Bittersweet memories. That is all I’m taking with me.” We will always love you, Dolly.

I came across a few feathered and furry friends during a visit to Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary and Montrose Beach protected dunes yesterday. Thanks to my friend Natalie for being such a great guide! And to my son who has become a bird nerd in his own right. I’m grateful that there are protected sanctuaries around Lake Michigan’s shores. These sanctuaries are needed more than ever, particularly given today’s announcement of a major rollback to the Endangered Species Act in the United States.
