Happy Chinese New Year!!! Many people have asked me how I got this great photo of this little guy. As most of you know Roosters are very difficult to photograph because they rarely stop moving when someone is around. For months I had been visiting farms and places that would have a Rooster with no luck. My daughter kept asking, “Mom, how are you going to get a Rooster photo for your website?” I would say, “I don’t know, but I will.”
In Dec. my daughter and I vacationed in Florida for her winter break. We stayed with friends in Boynton Beach. On our way home from the beach Jessica yelled, “Mom, there is a Rooster in that yard.” She was right, in the neighborhood of my friends’ home, there was a Rooster running around the front yard of a home in her neighborhood. I yelled, “Stop the car.” My friends’ mother stopped the car, I told her I would explain later. I only had my cell phone with me so it was difficult to get close to the Rooster, and his movements were sporadic, so it was difficult to get him in focus. He was all over the yard, in the bushes around the side of the house and kept a large distance from me to get a nice portrait of him. I came back to the car disappointed, and not sure how I would get a nice photo of him before the New Year.
My daughter said, “Don’t worry Mom, we have 9 more days here. You have time to get a nice picture of him.” My friends’ Mom said, “I’ve lived here for 16 years, and that is the third time I have seen him. I don’t know if you will see him again before you leave.” Three days later, on New Year’s Eve driving back from the beach, Jessica saw the Rooster again. My friend stopped the car and I got out, I grabbed my camera and walked towards the Rooster. He looked at me and started running around again. I slowed down and started talking to him, telling him that he was going to be the Rooster of the Chinese New Year 2017 - the Fire Rooster. I told him that he was handsome and had gorgeous colored feathers. He slowed down and allowed me to get closer to him and with one foot on the ground and the other one ready to run... He stayed, posed and allowed me to get plenty of images of him before he walked away. It was amazing! As I walked back to the car my daughter and friends asked, “Well, did you get it?” With a big smile on my face, I said, “Yes!” And here he is...
If you would like to purchase a photo of him, message me and I will give you prices. Happy New Year! Wishing you all joy, abundance, and success during this year of the Fire Rooster!
