Here's what I've learned after photographing many of seniors: the difference between a portrait that feels generic and one that's absolutely unforgettable comes down to ONE thing — outfit strategy.

Most families think it's about picking something they like. But professional photographers know better. We see how colors translate on camera, how patterns read from 6 feet away, how fit either flatters or fights the light.

I put together this 6-step playbook so YOU can think like a photographer before you even step in front of the camera.

Step 1: Understand Your Undertone - Warm, cool, or neutral skin tones photograph differently. Know yours, and you'll know which colors make you glow.

Step 2: Choose Colors That Pop - Camera sensors don't see color the same way your eyes do. Jewel tones and saturated hues photograph better than pastels and muddy shades.

Step 3: Master Pattern Placement - Small, tight patterns can blur on camera. Bold solids or larger prints are your friends.

Step 4: Get the Fit Right - Too tight reads unflattering; too loose reads sloppy. Fitted but comfortable is the sweet spot.

Step 5: Layer with Intention - Textures, jackets, and accessories add dimension and personality. They show who your senior really is.

I hear this from new parents all the time: 'I wish we'd booked sooner.' Here's why timing matters so much - and what you can do about it right now.

1. The sleepy window closes fast - Those precious first 5-14 days? Baby is naturally drowsy and curls up perfectly for photos. By week 3-4, that window shifts. You can't get those back.

2. Skin changes you won't expect - Newborn skin is at its smoothest in those early days. Rashes, marks, and color shifts happen. Capture them now, before they fade (or before they appear).

3. You'll be running on zero sleep - I'm not exaggerating. Waiting to book after baby arrives means you're exhausted, emotional, and scrambling to coordinate. Booking before birth gives you a plan and breathing room.
