Holly was just four years old when I first met her. I’ve had the honor of watching her grow, year after year — which made this studio session even more fun to create together.

Holly, you were magic from the very first day I met you, and watching that magic grow up alongside you has been one of the sweetest parts of this job.

Santa Monica - Venice - Malibu - Santa Barbara and back around. Coastal drives, hike + bike, 20k steps, surfed (kinda) and a whole lotta skateboarding. California we love you. And a big thank you to Michael Harrigan for graciously providing a home base a few blocks from the ocean, and to Christine Fleming for beautiful home cooked meals, window wine + cozy blankets. We love and miss you already.

Summer mornings - my new favorite time of day to photograph families. Gorgeous light, quiet locations, warm breeze. Made even more perfect seeing a former Chicago family here on holiday. A joy to be added to their vacation list, and to see them again before they become 4 ❤️

I recently read that Noah Kahan wrote “Orbiter” for his mom — and as I listened to the lyrics it got me thinking about family photo sessions.
So many are scheduled around the kids. Milestones, yearly updates, a way to document them growing. And those things matter. But I believe they are so much more than that.
They are for you.
To show how you loved. To remind your children of your tender touch. For them to look back one day and see your smile — a reminder of who you are to them, and who they are to you.
These sessions aren’t really about remembering age 1, or 4, or 7. They’re about remembering how special the relationship truly is. ❤️

Outdoor season is officially open. This family has celebrated every birthday for their girls with me (including their very first ones at Prentice Women’s hospital)— and every year, I fall a little more in love with them. Bright light, birthday cake, and a whole lot of everything that matters.
