I recently had the opportunity to work with music artist Johari McGhee Johari McGee to create a fresh collection of promotional images. From classic portraits to more creative poses, every shot was designed with purpose, giving him a variety of media assets for press, marketing, and future promotions.

Some people deserve their flowers while they can still enjoy them!

My client and friend Dominique Dominique Jordan Turner (DJT) wanted to do something special for her mentor, Ms. Pitre, to celebrate the incredible woman she is and honor the love, wisdom, and support she’s poured into her life.

So she brought her into the studio for the full Jason McCoy Photography experience!

And let me tell you, Ms. Pitre DID NOT come to play! She hit every pose, brought all the personality, and had an absolute blast!

We laughed, we created some amazing memories, and by the end of the shoot, I had made a new friend!

This is why I love what I do. It’s bigger than photography. It’s about celebrating people, creating experiences, and making memories that last a lifetime.

STOP folding your arms like this in photos!

Ever tried to fold your arms for a photo and suddenly forgot how arms work?

Here’s a simple posing hack I use with my clients to make the process feel more natural.

Instead of struggling to figure out where your hands should go, start by placing your thumbs into the folds of your opposite arms, then bring your arms together.

That’s it! A simple adjustment that helps you look more comfortable, confident, and relaxed in front of the camera.

Great photography isn’t just about the camera. It’s about knowing how to direct people.

I had a great time hosting DePaul University photography students at my studio for a hands-on learning experience.

We talked about photography, working with clients, marketing, and what it really takes to build a photography business. I also walked them through a live demonstration of how I approach creating a strong professional headshot.

I really enjoyed their questions, participation, and energy throughout the session. Sharing what I’ve learned over the years with the next generation of photographers is always rewarding.

Had a great time working with Promote Talent Agency artist Jeff A. Smith Jeff A. Smith for his updated headshots.

We created a mix of traditional and non-traditional images so he has a versatile set of options to present for different opportunities. Clean, polished shots are important, but showing personality and range can be just as valuable.

The goal was to give Jeff images that feel professional, current, and flexible enough to represent different sides of his talent.

Updated headshots can make a big difference when the right opportunity comes your way.
