St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Buffalo Ny

Fire broke out on JULY 6th 2026 Per usual, Fire Buff New York was on hand to capture the moments when fire and rescue crews showed up to the scene. The group reported throughout the course of the day, notifying neighbors and the community at large about the fire damage, and the efforts to extinguish the blaze.

Vacant four-story church, ordinary. Heavy fire on the first floor extended to the basement. Used two, two and a half lines. Ten thousand in damage to the building, zero to the contents. Fire is under investigation.

The fire, which broke out around 2:30 p.m., started on the first floor, before making its way to the basement. The church, founded in 1908 to serve the neighborhood’s growing German Catholic community, closed in 1993. It’s been abandoned ever since.

Prayers to all the families that are going through this right now it’s so sad I couldn’t imagine how they feel right now. We drove passed this other house and a tree collapsed in the whole driveway and house and we saw a walker so definitely older couple lives there 😥

Please don’t go here we thought this place was abandoned because it’s super over grown and windows broken and such. But this gentleman lives in the back of the house he said we are gunna get him some signs for no trespassing. Leave this man in piece. Btw he was very nice.

Michael Greeley House This late-Victorian Queen Anne house,, is transitional to the Colonial Revival style. The use of columns, rather than turned posts, the Paladian windows in the gables and the adjacent pairs of windows are all elements of the Colonial Revival style. This property was owned by Dr. Bennett before Greeley. Michael Greeley was a farming settler with his farm having originally been straight west of this farm. The original house on the Main Street location no longer exists. This house was built circa 1910. Mr. and Mrs. G. Meyers bought this house in the 1960s and made it into a rooming house. They enclosed the front porch and had an ice cream parlor in the porch area. The current owners, besides using the house as their residence, have the “Serendipity Shop” antique store in a portion of the house.

We got to explore one of the most famous paranormal manors which hosted ghost adventures here ! They’re so many videos on YouTube about this place!

Thornhaven Manor Built in 1845 by one of the state’s wealthiest men, Simon T. Powell. Steeped in rich local history, it was reportedly an Underground Railroad stop, a site for a 1906 murder conspiracy, and is famously known for intense, documented paranormal activity.

The manor was originally part of a massive 1,000-acre estate constructed by Simon T. Powell. Powell married Elizabeth (Hoover) Thornburg, and together they raised a prominent family on the land.

The isolated estate, overlooking the Big Blue River Valley, is believed to have been a safe haven for runaway slaves. Powell was notably tried by the state for harboring a slave on the premises.

The property saw tragedy in 1906 when the long-time caretaker of the estate, Reuben Bailey, was poisoned inside the home by his own son-in-law.

The estate changed hands over the decades and ultimately sat abandoned and overgrown from the 1970s until the early 2010s.

In May 2012, Steven Miller purchased the remaining 7-acre property. Since then, he has undertaken the massive task of repairing and restoring the dilapidated mansion.

Which now stands abandoned in 2026 still to this day from the owner with his health declining.

The manor’s long history combined with claims of multiple tragic deaths occurring on the property has given it a reputation as one of the most notoriously haunted houses in Indiana. Mediums and investigators have claimed that dozens of spirits reside on the grounds.

Thornhaven was featured in Season 8 of the hit television show Ghost Adventures. Because of the ongoing restoration and its haunted reputation.

Many of other paranormal groups have gone in hearing voices and footsteps etc.

The house has four staircases, seven doors that lead to the outside, four chimneys, two actual bedrooms and approximately 6,000 square feet. The back side of the house was once used as a restaurant owned by the Bells and later the kitchen was attached to the main house. There is no commercial power to the complete house.
