I’m in the thick of busy season and chatting with couples reminds me that we don’t often dedicate time to take photos with the ones we love.

Last winter when we were getting ready to leave St. Louis came over to take photos of Ryan, Pierogi and I. These were some of the first nice photos of the three of us that weren’t taken with a self timer in the 4 years we had been together and I love them so much.

I love that they were taken in a place that we adored and spent so much time in. We did all the things we loved to do together. We played records, made coffee, took Polaroids and cuddled up on the couch.

These photos help me remember a really special time and place in our life. Your photos don’t need to be in the place that everybody takes their photos at. They don’t need to look like everybody else’s. They mean the most when they’re a reflection of your life.

My goal when we take photos together is to help you be as comfortable as possible on camera.

People love candid images because they recognize themselves. They don’t remember the uncomfortable pose they were in, they don’t remember the camera.

When you allow yourself to have fun, relax and be in the moment with your person, that’s when magical moments get documented.

My name is Alexa Hecksel and I am a self taught photographer based in Mid Michigan. I was gifted my first camera two years ago and threw myself into photography.

I am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to interact with people, be creative and build others up. My goal is to help a person show their truest self in a photo. To show others how they see themselves, in the way that he or she feels most whole and beautiful.

Every day I try to learn more about photography and people from those that I meet, and I would love to work with you.
