๐ŸŒช๏ธโš ๏ธ This is one of the most aggressive tornado outlooks Iโ€™ve seen from Nadocast in a very long time.

Northern Illinois is highlighted for a significant tornado threat this afternoon and evening, with the potential for long-tracked, intense tornadoes between approximately 4 PM and 10 PM. The environment is expected to support discrete supercells capable of producing strong to violent tornadoes, along with very large hail and destructive winds. Recent forecasts from SPC and other meteorological sources also indicate the possibility of strong to intense tornadoes across northern Illinois and eastern Iowa today. (Jacksonville Journal-Courier)

โš ๏ธ If you live anywhere across Northern Illinois, now is the time to review your tornado safety plan and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

๐Ÿ“ Greatest concern: Northern Illinois
๐Ÿ•“ Timing: 4 PM โ€“ 10 PM
๐ŸŒช๏ธ Threats: Long-track tornadoes, giant hail, destructive winds
๐Ÿ“ฑ Have multiple warning methods ready

Iโ€™ll be providing live updates throughout the day as this potentially dangerous severe weather event unfolds.

๐Ÿšจ MORNING SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE ๐Ÿšจ

The ongoing morning MCS is starting to weaken from SW Wisconsin and NE Iowa down toward SE Iowa and western Illinois as it runs into more stable air. Even as it weakens, the stronger storms could still produce damaging winds and possibly a brief tornado. ๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

The bigger concern now is what happens behind and along the outflow boundary from this MCS. New storms are already developing across NE Missouri, and these could track into west-central Illinois while sitting closer to the warm sector. That area will need to be watched closely for any tornado threat that can develop. โš ๏ธ

Behind the morning complex, satellite is showing clearing and developing cumulus across NW Missouri and SW Iowa. That clearing will help the atmosphere recover and destabilize as it spreads east. This could set the stage for new tornadic supercells later today across eastern Iowa into western, central, and northern Illinois. ๐ŸŒค๏ธโ›ˆ๏ธ

SPC has a Moderate Risk in place for parts of eastern Iowa and northern Illinois today, with threats for damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes โ€” some possibly strong. Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings! ๐Ÿ“ฒ๐Ÿšจ

Waiting for the MSC to dissipate or observe what it's doing to determine the future tornado threat. I think I-80 and south will see strong tornadoes, while north and south of I-80 will experience damaging winds. โšก๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€

โš ๏ธ Tornado Watch 311 Update: The severe weather threat continues across eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri. Damaging wind gusts remain the primary hazard as a fast-moving line of storms pushes east. ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

๐ŸŒช๏ธ A tornado threat may develop from northeast Missouri into west-central Illinois, especially along the southern and southeastern edge of the storm complex where low-level rotation is more favorable.

โ˜€๏ธ While earlier storms stabilized parts of Illinois and Wisconsin, increasing sunshine and returning moisture could allow the atmosphere to recover this afternoon, helping storms maintain strength and potentially increase the tornado risk later today. Residents across western and central Illinois should stay weather-aware.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ Heads up for western Illinois: A storm on the southern end of the bowing MCS is beginning to develop an inflow notch and could become more organized. If rotation continues to strengthen, a tornado threat may develop. The storm is moving toward the Aledo, Illinois area and will need to be monitored closely over the next hour. โš ๏ธ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

โš ๏ธ Severe Thunderstorm Warning Until 10:30 AM CDT โš ๏ธ

A line of severe thunderstorms is racing east across eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois at 55 mph. The strongest storms may produce 70 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail, with the potential for significant tree damage and damage to roofs, outbuildings, and mobile homes.

๐Ÿ“ Areas impacted include Davenport, Iowa City, Moline, Rock Island, Bettendorf, Clinton, Muscatine, Coralville, North Liberty, and surrounding communities.

๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ If youโ€™re in the warned area, secure loose outdoor items and be prepared for damaging winds as the line moves through.

โš ๏ธ๐ŸŒช๏ธ MORNING UPDATE: SEVERE WEATHER EVOLVING ACROSS THE MIDWEST ๐ŸŒช๏ธโš ๏ธ

The overnight MCS has become much stronger than originally anticipated and is currently producing widespread damaging winds of 80-90+ mph as it races eastward with an impressive bowing structure.

The biggest question now is whether this current complex can maintain its intensity into Northern Illinois and the Chicago area, or if it weakens and a new round of storms develops later this afternoon and evening.

๐Ÿ“ If the current MCS remains organized, severe weather could arrive in the Chicago metro earlier than expected.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ Meanwhile, conditions ahead of the line may still support the development of isolated supercells across Eastern Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Southern Wisconsin. Any discrete storm that forms could produce strong, long-tracked tornadoes, potentially EF3+, along with very large hail and destructive winds.

โš ๏ธ Today remains a high-impact severe weather day across the region. Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

๐Ÿ“ก Iโ€™ll continue monitoring trends and provide additional updates throughout the day.
