The end of summer in Chico has brought colorful sunrises and sunsets against the hills and fields of golden grass and wild oaks. It's as reliable as the bounce back into the upper 90s after a week of cooler temps.

We are starting to prep for the Open Studio Art Tours, planning promotions and ordering prints in. Those weekends in October are some of the best times to get out and see everything in the local art community. We can't wait!

Not every landscape is green.

Some of my favorite places to photograph are the desert—where the light, textures, and wide-open views create something completely different. These shots from Joshua Tree and Zion are a reminder that beauty doesn't have to be lush to leave an impression.

The desert has a way of slowing you down, encouraging you to look a little closer, and appreciate the details you might otherwise miss.

Storm clouds, wildflowers, and a meadow lit up by a break in the sky—sometimes nature does all the work.

This was one of those moments where the light only lasted a few minutes, transforming the entire landscape before disappearing again. It's a reminder that some of the best views don't stick around for long, which makes capturing them even more rewarding.

Back-to-school season always feels like the unofficial end of summer—even if the forecast says we'll be sweating for a while longer.

I'm looking back on some of my favorite places from the season, starting with this waterfall. There's nothing quite like getting outside, exploring somewhere new, and bringing home photos that remind you of the adventure.
