Right off the Bobolink Trail at Slate Run Wetlands is one of Ohio's largest osage orange trees. This beautiful tree is around 54 inches in diameter. The photos don't do it justice, its something you just have to see in person.
Settlers introduced the Osage Orange to Ohio in the 1800s. The tree bare a lime green fruit with a bumpy texture also known as hedge apples.
There is an observation deck near the tree where you can look out over the wetlands.

This sweet little House Wren was not happy that I was disturbing their dinner. She successfully delivered the spider to her babies despite being very mad I was present!

One last bunch of farm pictures. I have so many people tell me "they never heard of the place" when I say Slate Run Historical Farm. If you have never been I highly suggest you check it out. It's like time traveling to the 1880s, you can see what life on a farm was like back then. If you are lucky Chester the cat will let you pet him. Its located at 1375 OH 674 in Canal Wi******er.

I have more farm pictures, but I thought I better throw in a few bird pictures. Common Yellowthroats were plentiful at Slate Run Wetlands, I saw at least four. They have such fun personalities.
The Yellowthroat is a New World warbler and can be found from southern Canada to central Mexico. They like to live in open areas with thick low vegetation.

There are babies at Slate Run Historical Farm. The farm's pigs are Spotted Poland China, which were a major breed during the 1880s, the time period the farm represents. The babies are five days old right now, you can't enter their building to see them yet, but you can peek in the window and see the cuties.

The Arc of Appalachia is an organization I hold near and dear to my heart. I can't begin to say how much I appreciate what they do and how much their lands provide me peace and joy. With that being said, they are trying to acquire 2770 acres of land adjacent to the New River Wilderness in West Virginia. This land will go up for auction on June 30th. They are accepting pledges to help in this effort. Please check this out link if you have the means to help them out and if you do not please share to get the word out.
