To the Grooms: if you want a more relaxed wedding day, here’s what I’d actually recommend after five years of photographing weddings:

• Get a good night’s sleep! Don’t stay up late the night before your wedding trying to squeeze in one more round with your guys. You’ll feel the difference the next morning.

• Designate one person as your point of contact. Your best man, planner, or someone you trust can handle the “where are we supposed to be?” questions so you don’t have to worry.

• Get ready somewhere you actually want to spend time. A cramped room with bad lighting and nowhere comfy to hang will affect the entire feel of your morning.

• Plan something to do with your guys. Cards, breakfast, music, golf, whatever feels like you. Sitting around waiting for the ceremony tends to create more nerves than excitement.

• Hydrate throughout the day!!!! Between nerves, getting ready, photos, and celebrating, it’s easy to forget. Keep water nearby and actually drink it.

• Most importantly, stop checking your watch. Once you’re with your people, let someone else worry about the timeline.

The grooms who give themselves room to actually experience the day are almost always the ones who look the most natural in their photos! Save this for your wedding week and send it to your best man, too. He may be the one who needs to keep you on track 😉
