Participating in Homearama is like going to the super bowl. I had the pleasure of photographing for Housetrends Magazine. All of the four-story homes on display were topped with rooftop open-air gathering spaces capitalizing on sweeping views of the Ohio River, the hills of Northern Kentucky and the downtown Cincinnati skyline. What word describes this image?

My 2020 vision looks nothing like I thought it would at the beginning of this year.

When creating my vision board on January 1st, I expected to accomplish my checklist but instead, through the craziness of COVID, I had time to reflect.

Although things didn’t go as planned, I’m seeing things differently than I might have imagined and I’m all the better for it.

1 Corinthians 2:16 tells us we have the mind of Christ, so if you call on Jesus, He will give you His wisdom for your situation.

In the image of my brother-in-law, I see his strength and confident gaze seeking the mind of Christ in troubled waters.

To quote Ravi Zacharias, “Outside of the Cross of Jesus Christ, there is no hope in this world. That Cross and resurrection at the core of the Gospel is the only hope for humanity. Wherever you go, ask God for wisdom on how to get that Gospel in, even in the toughest situations of life.”

How serious are you about your morning routine?

Is it the same every day or dictated by something else—your mood, your workload, how late you burned the midnight oil? I tend to keep an early routine that always starts with coffee, bible study, and sometimes a walk in the cool morning dew. It makes sense for me because I work best with clear structure.

Am I right to guess we’ve all spent more time indoors this year than we ever imagined we would?

It’s allowed me to do a bit of self-reflection and I’ve realized how important it is to have family time! Embracing this time to be together before our calendar is flooded with fall activities. But it’s helped me become a better businessperson because this is a great time to capture timeless memories of our family. Images that reveal and embrace the good during this challenging time. Is anyone feeling the weight of the world today? Something about what we’ve all been going through has made me take stock of the few things in life that are truly most important to me. Moments of quiet calm amidst all the anxiety are right at the top of my list. Lately, I’ve been finding those moments in early morning or evening walks with the family. 1 John 4:4, NIV: “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” This encouragement should empower believers not to fear Satan, but rather trust the Lord and obey His commands. By doing so, we can overcome the powers of darkness and walk with boldness in this life.

What adds a bit of fizz to your life? For me, it’s an evening spent poolside with my family. It’s little things like this that make my mood rise immediately, like bubbles rushing to the surface from a cannonball splash or water slide. What’s your fizz?
