Your Sunday night reminder while you're mentally preparing for another week:

Because somehow it's August…

then you blink…

and suddenly it's October 23rd and you're messaging photographers:

"Any chance you have something this weekend?"

Sometimes the weather decides it's going to completely ruin your photo session…

…and sometimes it accidentally gives you THIS. 😭🌧️❤️

We got caught in the rain during our session at Homegrown on Haubner Hill and instead of calling it quits, we just went with it.

And THIS is why I will forever choose real moments over perfect ones.

Wet clothes. Soaked hair. A laughing baby. Mom running through the rain. Dad still tossing that baby into the air like nothing is happening. 😂

Perfect? Nope.

Better than perfect? Absolutely.

Some of my favorite family photographs happen when we stop worrying about everyone looking at the camera and just let your family be your family. ❤️

There is something about walking into a family’s home and seeing photos I took years ago still hanging on their walls that gets me every single time. 🥹

Because when I took those photos, maybe those babies were actually babies. Maybe the kids were missing teeth. Maybe that season of life felt completely ordinary at the time.

And now it’s framed on the wall. 🤍

This is one of my absolute favorite parts of being a photographer — knowing that something I created became a tiny piece of your family’s home and your family’s story.

So yes, please keep printing your photos. Hang them on the walls. Fill the frames. Make the albums.

And if I happen to walk into your house and see one of mine hanging there, just know I am internally screaming with happiness. 😂🥹

Your reminder that senior pictures do not have to look like the exact same 12 poses we've all seen since approximately 1997. 😂

Your senior has spent 17–18 years becoming their own person.

Their pictures should actually FEEL like them.

Bring the sport.

Bring the guitar.

Bring the truck.

Bring the horse.

Bring the ridiculous shoes they wear every day.

Let's incorporate the things they'll actually remember about this version of themselves.

🌻 LOCAL BUSINESS LOVE 🌻

Can we talk about how ridiculously cute Homegrown on Haubner Hill is?!

I had the chance to photograph several sessions out there this summer and every single little corner of this place is beautiful. The flowers, the views, the adorable yellow chair tucked into the blooms…there are SO many gorgeous spots to work with.

And beyond how pretty it is, the owner puts so much love and work into this flower farm. You can absolutely tell how well cared for everything is. ❤️

I’m always thankful when another local small business opens their space up and allows me to create something beautiful for my clients.

Parents:

Your kids do NOT have to behave perfectly for family pictures.

Read that again. 😂

They can be shy.

They can need a snack.

Your toddler can decide that sitting nicely with the family is a personal attack.

Someone can cry.

Someone probably will fart.

WE WILL SURVIVE. 😂

Some of my favorite photographs happen when we stop trying to make kids perform for the camera and just let them be kids.

We'll play.

We'll move.

We'll cuddle.

We'll be ridiculous.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I'll capture your family exactly as you are right now.

So please don't skip family pictures because you're worried your kids "won't cooperate."

Bring me the chaos.

I'm going to lovingly remind you of something you probably don't want to hear yet. 😂

🍂 FALL IS COMING. 🍂

And my calendar through October is already slightly bonkers.

Most of my remaining weekend availability this fall has been intentionally reserved for my Fall Mini Sessions at Ault Park.

So if family pictures are on your fall to-do list, this is me gently yelling:

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL OCTOBER TO MESSAGE ME. 😂

Fall minis are perfect if you want updated family photos without committing your entire evening to pictures.

Quick. Easy. Beautiful.

And yes, I fully expect at least one child to refuse to cooperate.

Friendly reminder:

Your kids do NOT need to be perfectly behaved for family pictures. 😂

They can run.

They can be silly.

They can need a snack.

They can decide that smiling at the camera is suddenly against everything they believe in.

They can even have a tiny meltdown.

None of that means your session is ruined.

Honestly? Some of my favorite images happen when we stop worrying about everyone looking directly at me and let your family actually BE your family.

We'll play. We'll move. We'll snuggle. We'll make dumb jokes. I'll probably make weird noises to get your toddler's attention. 😂

And somewhere in all that chaos, I'll catch the little things that actually look like *you guys.*

So please don't put off family pictures because you're worried about how your kids will behave.

Bring me the chaos.
