Things to bring to a Family Session:
☑Bug Spray (Number 1 on my list this year!)
☑Snacks (preferably the non-messy kind) and Water (gotta stay hydrated in this heat!)
☑A favorite toy…especially for babies and toddlers. Something they go crazy happy for. It doesn’t necessarily have to be photogenic, just something to get their attention and make them smile.
☑An activity. I love capturing families interacting and simply having fun together. Blowing bubbles, reading books, playing catch, having a tea party, playing musical instruments…you get the idea.
☑A blanket (that can be thrown on the ground) for sitting down shots. I usually have a couple options with me, but if you have something that coordinates nicely with your outfits, even better.
☑Patience and positive vibes.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. I’ve rarely had a photo session where everyone sat in front of my camera smiling and taking direction perfectly for 90 straight minutes (newsflash! 😂). I don’t expect anyone to do that…not even the parents 😜. Kids will be kids, and I don’t expect them to behave perfectly 100% of the time, whether they are babies, toddlers or big kids. Honestly, we just need a few seconds here and there throughout the session to make great images. My best advice to parents is to go with the flow and keep smiling through the chaos.
Yes, I said it…family sessions can be chaotic. But they are also beautiful, fun and completely and utterly REAL LIFE. I promise that we will capture beautiful images despite the chaos!
Did I leave anything off the list? Anything you have brought to a photo session that has been a game changer? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to give a double tap for this beautiful family who braved the bugs and humidity to make beautiful photos with me!
