I’ve seen a lot of posts circulating about AI and photographers choosing to stop sharing photos of children, and I wanted to share my perspective.

I absolutely believe AI needs stronger regulation, especially when it comes to protecting children. But I also think it’s important to have honest conversations about the risks without letting fear take over.

The reality is, photos of our children already exist in so many digital spaces. We take them on our phones, back them up to the cloud, text them to family, upload them to galleries, post them on social media, and share them through countless apps. An image is never forever deleted.

That brings up a bigger question: If the answer is simply “stop posting kids,” what happens to the thousands of photos that have already been shared? Are we expecting every photographer, parent, grandparent, friend, school, daycare, sports team, and organization to go back years and delete every image?

I don’t think this issue is that simple.

I believe in being cautious. I believe parents should have complete control over whether their children’s photos are shared. And if you ever tell me you don’t want your child posted, I will respect that! No explanation needed!

At the same time, I don’t believe in using fear to make parents feel like they’re doing something wrong by allowing their children to be photographed or shared.

I’ll continue sharing my work while respecting every family’s wishes, just as I always have. Protecting children matters. So does giving parents accurate information, acknowledging the bigger picture, and allowing them to make the choices that are right for their families. 🤍
